Vertu Constellation Ayxta Update! Its Broken!

Posted on 12 April 2010

Vertu Constellation Ayxta If you noticed last week, we did an unboxing on the Vertu Constellation Ayxta.  A gorgeous new flip phone that costs oodles and oodles..  Well this week its broken! I put one of my 3 SIMs in it to start using it and absorbing it into my daily repertoire.  And then it started happening! I had synched the phone to my PC (Ok Mac Book Pro running Windows XP) and loaded my contacts and a few pertinent pics and was very excited to get started! I turned it on and the screen clock on the inside started to flash incessantly and I couldn’t get it to stop!  I closed and opened… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Unboxing the Vertu Constellation Ayxta

Posted on 04 April 2010

Vertu, the high-end Nokia luxury handset company, released a flip version of their phone towards the end of 2009 and I finally got my hands on one!  So this is the unboxing view, and I’ll come back in a few weeks and do a proper review of the phone whilst in use. I purchased the unit from one of the jewellery stores here in Sydney after much haggling, and carried my plain brown box through the city back to the train stop.  I found it a bit odd to carry a large shopping bag from a fine jewellery store through the city, so I opted to carry my new prize just… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

What does an iPhone cost in your country, are you getting the best deal?

Posted on 24 November 2009

Carriers across the world insist on a 2 year contract when they hand out a new phone, such as an iPhone for a low price of say $199.  But what does the same phone cost in Europe or in Australia? Which country is getting the best deal?  Are you getting ripped off?… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Carrying a Blackberry and an iPhone?

Posted on 11 September 2009

photo courtesy of CapMac iPhone SIG So much has already been written about the iPhone versus Blackberry, but what about some peaceful co-existence, or maybe overlapping contentment? I carry an iPhone for personal use and a Blackberry 8110 (I know I know, but its corporate issue with an EXTREME IT Policy).  What I’m thinking about is figuring out a way to tradeoff using a Blackberry Bold/Javelin for personal as well..  Carrier plans aside, I like both platforms and sometimes its nice to just carry one charger for both personal and business.. Are you carrying both an iPhone and a Blackberry?  What have you found that… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Only read this book if you are interested in your universe!

These and many other questions have a serious grounding in the new book Why Does E=MC2? by Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Initial Thoughts on the HTC Touch Pro2

Posted on 08 June 2009

Judie: When HTC first sent news of their upcoming Touch Pro2 back in February, the personal note from my HTC contact said “PS: Know you have been waiting for the next Universal for awhile now…” Heck yeah I have, and that was a bit of a tease if there ever was one! Sure the radios, memory, processors, screen types – almost everything imaginable have been updated in newer HTC models, but as feature rich and highly spec’d as PDA phones may have been since 2005, I haven’t been able to keep myself from comparing all of them to the form factor perfection I personally found in the HTC Universal. But after waiting so long with no true contender, I’ve just about accepted that the Universal form factor will never return. With that in mind I have turned a more accepting eye to current devices which reproduce and perfect other features of the Universal that I liked so much – its almost 4″ VGA screen, the excellent keyboard, the option of using tablet or “laptop” mode, its fast processor, its expansion ability, etc., etc. Now that the Pro2 is becoming available, Clinton and I both have in hand loaners that HTC [...]

Tehran Blocks Access to FaceBook

Posted on 25 May 2009

“Iran has blocked access to social networking site Facebook ahead of June’s presidential elections, Iran’s Ilna news agency and web users say”  [Per the BBC] Don’t you find this amazing, that due to politics in a country all users of FaceBook have been blocked.  Imagine if you tried to login to Facebook this morning and you received the following message “Access to this site is not possible”?  What would you think?  Once you found out it was your government blocking your access would you sit back and wait for someone to do something about it, or would you do something about it? Imagine the sinking feeling and the somewhat helplessness of having government intervention in your ability for free… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Patek Philippe has Arrived!

Posted on 04 May 2009

“You never really own a Patek Philippe, you merely take care of it for the next generation,” or so we are meant to believe.  Rubbish!  Buy one for yourself and if you are lucky enough to have a son who understands and appreciates it, you can then not concern yourself to its whereabouts beyond your earthly presence.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
