Sponsor Love

Posted on 20 May 2009 by Judie Lipsett

It’s that time again…time for me to recognize all of the wonderful sponsors who believe in and who so graciously support Gear Diary…

I’ll start by mentioning our newest sponsor, LogicBuy. Have you noticed the near daily Gear Sponsored blurbs that Wayne started posting last week? Not to be confused with the GearDeals he has always scoured the net to find, these are sponsored posts pointing you to the deal of the day on the LogicBuy site. We’d like to thank Thai and the gang at LogicBuy for their support, and we hope that you all enjoy some extra savings when taking advantage of their deals.

Next is our original and longest running backer: Skooba Design (formerly RoadWired). Michael Hess believed in this site from the beginning and offered his company’s support. I’ll always be grateful that he took an early interest in us, and I hope that you all will show your appreciation for his leap of faith by clicking his ad and perusing his wares. You can see past Skooba Design / RoadWired reviews here.

Mingo Chui and the gang from PDair have been another longtime sponsor. I’ve been reviewing PDair items for years, and am pleased to take this opportunity to thank them for supporting us. If you haven’t clicked their button recently, then do! Once on their site, you’ll find that PDair has a solution for just about every one of your mobility needs. On this site you will find quite a few reviews of their cases and other products.

BeyzaCases has also been a faithful supporter of this site, and we truly appreciate them! Gear Diary readers have grown familiar with their products over the last few years, but Beyza has been around for quite a while. As Ali, my contact there told me some time ago, “We, as Neta Trades Ltd have been in this business since 1998, but we have started to produce and markeket under our own brandname BeyzaCases in 2004. Untill that time we were only producing our leather Cases for well known brandnames as a confidential contractor. We are still producing for many brands in same way. But since 2004 we wanted to be in this market as BeyzaCases for to share our experience and to show our quality. We are offering competitive wholesale pricess to our clients including fast and free shipment with a Great service. All BeyzaCases products reach our clients with “LifeTime Warranty”.” We have reviewed quite a few BeyzaCases’ branded products on Gear Diary, and you can see those reviews here. You can check out their latest offerings by clicking here.

I would also like to thank all of the companies who have sponsored contests through Gear Diary. Off the top of my head (which automatically means I am forgetting some), these include: HP, Scooba Design, Vaja, HTC, Epson, Speck, Ultimate Ears, BlueAnt Wireless, Astraware, PPC Techs, and so many others are the companies that spice up our usual offerings of news, reviews, and opinion pieces. We truly appreciate them! If your company would like to sponsor Gear Diary through a contest or advertisement, you can find details on how to do so, here.

As a reminder, another way to support Gear Diary is by signing up for a free one-year subscription to any of the Free Tech magazines from the Trade Publication button on the far right sidebar. You can purchase software (as well as hardware accessories) from the Gear Diary Store, and we also have an affiliate relationship with ProClip, makers of almost every in-vehicle mount solution you might ever need.

I would also like to thank YOU for reading Gear Diary, because without your continued support…what would be the point? :-D

Sponsor Love

It’s that time again…time for me to recognize all of the wonderful sponsors who believe in and who so graciously support Gear Diary…

First is Mingo Chui and the gang from PDair, one of our continuing sponsors. I’ve been reviewing PDair items for years, and am pleased to take this opportunity to thank them for supporting us. If you haven’t clicked their button recently, then do! Once on their site, you’ll find that PDair has a solution for just about every one of your mobility needs. You can see past Skooba Design / RoadWired reviews here.

Next is Ciao. They have the search box which you see in the far right column, and when you enter an item you’ll see what happens. Who and what exactly is Ciao? According to their site, “Ciao is a multi-million-strong online community that critically reviews and rates millions of products and services for the benefit of other consumers. Available free of charge to consumers in local language versions in major western European and North American markets, Ciao combines unbiased consumer reviews and up-to-date price information from hundreds of online retailers to make it the most comprehensive source of intelligent shopping on the web. Testimony to Ciao’s success, more than 38 million consumers visit the site every month, making it one of the largest shopping portals in North America and Europe.”

Last but never least is BeyzaCases. While the name may not be familiar with many of our readers, BeyzaCases products should be. As Ali, my contact there said back in May, “We, as Neta Trades Ltd have been in this business since 1998, but we have started to produce and markeket under our own brandname BeyzaCases in 2004. Skooba Design in the News

Posted on 24 March 2008 by Judie Lipsett

I thought this was pretty cool: long time Gear Diary friend and sponsor Skooba Design was profiled on the Rochester, New York news. Through the video, I was finally able to put a face on Michael Hess, who I have spoken with on the phone but have never met (we always miss each other at CES).

About the video, Michael said:

And no, I did not gain 200 pounds—the camera only adds 10—but I did have some trouble getting the video sized right, so everything (including me) came out a little wider than it should have.

Hey, I’m just impressed that he was so comfortable on camera! :-)

Congratulations Michael & Team!

Posted on 24 August 2007 by Judie Lipsett

As many of you know, Michael Hess of Skooba Design, is one of Gear Diary’s sponsors. We recently were given the chance to return the favor when we helped sponsor him and his team in the Hospice Regatta.

As Michael told me in his initial email, “I am a crew member on a racing sailboat (“Blue Knight,”) and each year we participate in the Hospice Regatta—a series of races held to raise money for end-of-life and palliative care centers. Anyone who has had a friend or family member cared for by Hospice knows what an amazing service it provides in the most difficult circumstances imaginable. These serious, big-boat racing events, held in communities across the country, are one of the most significant—if not the leading—sources of funding for Hospice.”

For those of you that aren’t familiar with Hospice, I’ll borrow some of the excellent information available on the American Cancer Society site:

Hospice, in the earliest days, was a concept rooted in the centuries-old idea of offering a place of shelter and rest, or “hospitality” to weary and sick travelers on a long journey. Dame Cicely Saunders at St. Christopher’s Hospice in London first applied the term “hospice” to specialized care for dying patients in 1967. Today, hospice care provides humane and compassionate care for people in the last phases of incurable disease so that they may live as fully and comfortably as possible.

Review: RoadWired Cable Stable.

Posted on 27 May 2007 by Doug Goldring

I regularly commute to work with my laptop in tow, so I am always on the lookout for new solutions to carry my gadgets, accessories, trinkets and gizmos. My latest stop found me at the RoadWired Deluxe Cable Stable, an impressive looking gear bag, which features an assortment of pockets, cords, loops and cubbies to tie down and secure everything you need to support your mobile habits.

For ease of access, the Cable Stable unzips on three sides, to lie flat when open, revealing a plethora of flexible spaces in which to store your gear. Although it is called the Cable Stable, as you will see, all of your mobile gear is welcome here. Let’s take a closer look. Continue Reading

The BatteryGeek 130Wh External Battery Pack Review

Posted on 11 May 2007 by Mitchell Oke

I have had my MacBook Pro for about 6 months now, and for the most part I have been very happy with it. The one issue that has been with it from the beginning is battery life. While it may be quite a powerful laptop, the 2.5hrs battery life (I have seen less more than once) is just plain slack. Due to the design of the MBP an extended battery isn’t really practical either as it would be a rather awkward hump in the middle of the laptop.

There is a solution however. It might not be the most elegant of solutions, but it certainly gets the job done, and provides an amazing boost in battery life. It comes from a company called BatteryGeek, who pride themselves in powering your devices far beyond their standard time.

Thermaltake iXoft Fanless Notebook Cooler Review

Posted on 06 May 2007 by Mitchell Oke

Laptops these days are getting a lot more powerful, and along with that power comes a lot of heat. Some laptops obviously get hotter than others, and my MacBook Pro would be nearing the top of that list. When its running hard it can get very hot on the bottom, which is why the term notebook was coined. At full (or even medium) load, my MacBook Pro is definitely not a laptop.

DSCF4455

Thermaltake, the guys that make computer cases and cooling products, have come to the rescue with a new product that puts your notebook back on your lap, without the associated burns and discomfort.

Roadwired Skooba Satchel Review

Posted on 15 March 2007 by Mitchell Oke

Two weeks ago I started my university course studying for a Bachelor of Creative Technology (Digital Television Production). The reason I bought my MacBook Pro late last year was in preparation for this course, so of course I wanted to take it with me every day. Problem was I didnt have a nice bag to carry everything in. My laptop backpack was too big and my laptop bag looked pretty lame.

DSCF4143

Roadwired sent me one of their Skooba Satchels to try out, and it was my hope that it would be up to the task. It needs to be able to carry:

? 15 MacBook Pro
? MacBook Pro Power Adaptor
? Logitech VX Revolution Mouse
? 250GB External HDD (with power adaptor)
? Music Player (my shiny new Zune will be taking the place of my 8GB nano)
? Treo sync/charge cable
? Couple of DVD-Rs (not in cases)
? Earphones
? Wallet and keys
? Magazine
? Spiral notepad and pens
? Possibly a textbook on occasion

More recently a Thermaltake iXoft notebook cooler has been added to that list, making it a pretty full bag!!
