It’s been a pretty busy week in tech. Maybe you’ve missed some stuff in the midst of a little upgrade known as the 3G S, or the recent “KindleGate” firestorm (pausing while everyone calls Amazon to get clarification on whether that DRM content you paid for & own is still accessible).
Done? OK. Good. We know you’re busy. You just don’t have time to keep up with every single update and product release out there. That’s alright, because we have you covered. So, sit back, relax and take a look at our weekly roundup, highlighting just a few of the items you may have missed over the past few days.

Some folks test their gear by putting it in some extreme conditions. They may drop it from a few feet. They may splash a little water on it. Here at Gear Diary, if you are Larry Greenberg, you put it in a car — then you set the car on fire! If your gadget makes it, you have yourself a winner. If not, well, there’s always a spot on “Will It Grill?”
This week had it all – from flaming hard drive enclosures to a mobile phone that survived (and still worked) after being left outside for seven months. Let’s take a quick look at just a few of last week’s highlights.

Ahhh, the beginning of a brand new week. The slate is clean and it’s time to get your Monday started off right. So sit back, grab (another) cup of coffee and let’s take a look at some of last week’s highlights. You know, like Microsoft being ordered to stop selling Word within 60 days. There’ s just nothing quite like software patents to throw a kink into your week. Que sera, sera. At least Mac users will finally be able to look forward use Outlook when Office 2010 hits the streets.
So, what else was going on last week….

The dog days of summer are upon us. School has started up, the work grind continues to well, grind along, and the tech news keeps a coming at a frantic pace. Last week saw quite a bit of action. Microsoft announced a curious mobile strategy - Windows Mobile 6.5 will compete with Android, while Windows Mobile 7 will go head to head with the iPhone. Given the direction and fragmentation of the platform, some wonder whether Windows Mobile could soon be dead if there are not significant improvements — and fast.
RIM shifted into gear with a webstore front for their BlackBerry App World, an enhanced Google Mail Plugin, and a Google Apps Connector for their BlackBerry Enterprise Servers. There was plenty of App goodness for iPhone lovers: Qik was updated to allow 3G uploading (but, alas, still missing live streaming); Judie showed us that you can still get the fun and instant gratification of a Poloroid with your iPhone; and Christopher Gavula hit the road to see whether Navigon’s GPS application would reign supreme.
But, that’s not all. Take a look at some of last week’s highlights to see what the Gear Diary team’s been up to…

Unless you’ve been under a rock, no doubt this week you’ve heard about the ongoing shenanigans between Apple, AT&T, and applications utilizing Google Voice. Then the FCC entered the fold. Then AT&T responded to the FCC, and effectively through Apple under the bus. Exciting times. It doesn’t look like things may be all puppy dogs, fluffy clouds and rainbows for the iPhone companies right now. One thing is for sure, though, consumers and developers alike are fuming. How is the backlash going to play out? Is this going to ripple into other industry “game changers” within the current wireless/telecom and mobile application ecosystems? Will folks begin to — gasp! — stray from their iPhones bit by bit and move to Android (or other platforms) as more handsets come out next year? Is this all simply much adieu about nothing?
Let’s take a some time to look back at the events of this week, while highlighting some more of Gear Diary’s best.

Summer is slowly coming to a close here in the U.S. That means time for school and looking ahead to the Fall (and lots of exciting tech news and product releases for the upcoming holiday season). Even Gear Diary is taking some time to learn some new tricks.
Apple fans had an exciting week with the release of Snow Leopard, Facebook 3.0, TextExpander Touch, a peak at the new Pocket Informant and some augmented-reality fun with Yelp . In all the excitement you may have forgotten to make sure your software will remain compatible (and snow leopard is also safe for all of our the jailbroken iPhones out there).
BlackBerry users got their own on-device music store, while Android got some Mobile TV love — I even hear it works over 3G and Wi-Fi
. There’s always a lot going, so let’s kick back and take a look at just a bit of what you may have missed…

Last week saw quite a few big events — including big Steve’s public return, a new video camera enabled iPod Nano, refreshed iPod Touch, and iTunes 9. Unfortunately, there’s still no Beatles on iTunes, but the Fab Four did get their own Rock Band game and released their entire remastered CD catalog.
Google’s Android platform had a few announcements of their own with new Facebook and Pandora apps, as well as being a major part of Motorola’s return to the fold with the new Cliq of major mobile handset manufacturer’s (as well as essentially becoming a mobile software company with their customized Android user interface known as MotoBlur).
Palm snuck in their new WebOS phone, the Pixi. AT&T announced the A-List calling plan coming September 20th, where subscribers can make free calls to 5 domestic numbers (if you have a family plan, you can have up to 10 numbers for free calls). Then Sprint followed-up with the Any Mobile Plan, giving their subscribers the ability to contact any mobile number on any network free.
Whew! Oh, but that wasn’t all, folks. Keep reading after the break to see just a few more of last week’s big events…

Settling into your Monday routine? It seems that all the big players had an announcement, so before you get too drawn into wrapping up those TPS reports, let’s take a look back at some of the past week’s big stories, deals, and updates.

So you’re settling in to another long week and getting into your routine. Don’t worry, there’ s plenty of Gear Diary goodness coming up to get you through the next seven days. Before you start getting all misty-eyed over how fast the weekend went by, let’s take a look at some of last week’s highlights.
In case you missed it, the Palm Pre has significantly been sliding down in price. If you’ve been holding out, your timing will certainly pay off. We thought the $99 Palm Pre price was good. Then Wayne let everyone know about a deal where you can scoop up a Pre for $55 at Wal-Mart with a rebate + coupon code. More Pre good news? Well, it won’t be much longer before the GSM version of the Palm Pre will finally start to hit the streets (the UK, Ireland and Germany should see the GSM Pre first — but we expect a lot of folks to start eyeballing eBay to get early shots at the device on this side of the pond
).
Let’s not forget some of the other deals, big wins, and news from last week either…
