I just ran into a story over at macnn.com, and it looks like Apple has decided that it’s had enough of the cloning and it’s finally filed suit in California against Psystar. Apparently they did this back on July 3rd.Â
Short form - Apple says Psystar violated Apple copyrights, trademarks, and licenses, and Psystar says Apple can’t dictate what kind of hardware their OS is run on and they are violating antitrust laws.
So I guess it’s game on.

Okay. We pretty much survived the hoopla of last Friday and now we start into that period where people really kick the tires on the 3G iPhone and the new OS.Â
Most people have been commenting heavily, one way or another, on the new 3G iPhone. But what about those of us who simply upgraded our existing first generation devices? That’s what I did (and thousands of others too, I suspect!). On top of that, I went out and got some apps from the new apps store, and I’d like to share a few semi-random observations about my limited 2.0 experience.

The folks over at USB Fever are now offering a 2-in-one car/home charger for USB devices. The nice thing about this one is that it offers swappable adapters for the U.S./Japan, U.K., Australia/China, and Europe, as well as a standard 12v/24v car lighter connection able to charge 2 USB devices at once.

Father’s Day is coming up quickly, and we know that some of you are still stressing over what to get your special guy. We’re here to help! So with that goal in mind, Wayne and I culled through a few of our past reviews, things we found on the web, and vendor emails to see which gifts might make dad smile…

No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you; Gear Diary is fortunate, because we get to have two team member’s virtual birthday parties in a row.
Please join me in wishing a very Happy Birthday to Christopher Gavula!

From the very beginning, Chris entered our site with a BANG. His first post was about technology busting the Detroit mayor, and he hasn’t stopped sharing his wicked laser sharp insights since…

In recent months I’ve been looking at getting a new car.  Actually, at first, I was looking at used cars, but, eventually, I ended up looking at new hatchbacks.  I was replacing a sports car and the point of the exercise was to get a vehicle that would save me gas, and be a little more utilitarian without totally giving up the fun factor. After doing tons of research on the Internet, I ended up buying a special edition of the 2008 Scion xB - the Gold Rush Mica Release 5.0.

If you have a laptop built in the last couple of years, then odds are good that you’ve experienced the heat, maybe even the burn, of having the laptop sit on your lap. Many of the newest laptops get extremely hot, even with internal fans trying to keep the heat down.  LapLogic is offering a cooling solution called the Laplogic Aerogel Extreme that is made with Aerogel (from a company called Aspen) that promises to offer you a more pleasant, cooler, computing experience.

You may remember a while back that Judie ran a story on a nifty way to make and share mixtapes online called Muxtape.
Well now, according to a story over at iphonealley.com, Muxtape is now compatible with the Safari browser on the iPhone. Now the reach of this cool website has gone just a little farther!

As part of the Gear Diary team, part of what I try to do is wander the Internet looking for useful things to share. Lately, I’ve noticed a disturbing trend on the Internet - people presenting their personal opinions as if what they say is fact.
Let’s be clear - stating an opinion on the net is nothing new. Hey, I’m doing that right now! What seems to be happening with increasing frequency though, is that someone will make a statement online, others will pick it up and spread it, and before you know it people are repeating the original opinion as if it’s a hard fact; when, in fact it was really just someone’s opinion.
Rumor and opinion suddenly become fact, and it’s just wrong. Worse - it seems to be happening more and more.

Judie: Here’s how it all started. I got a press release from Kevin Doel regarding FlipSide, a new Windows Mobile MP3 Player which features “”Swooshing” Album Art as Part of Acclaimed Visual Interface.”
FlipSide, the MP3 player from Electric Pocket that has had BlackBerry users buzzing, is now available to users of Windows Mobile devices such as the Treo 700xw, Mogul, Ace, and Blackjack. The feature that has made FlipSide such an instant hit among BlackBerry users is its iPhone-like interface that allows users to visually “swoosh” through their music quickly and easily.
Navigating through music and selecting tunes is a simple process with FlipSide: scroll through the Album Covers, or flick through them using your finger on the screen, then click on the navigation button to open up a vertical list of the tracks. The spacebar is used to start, pause and skip songs, while the navigation button is used to scroll either left or right to either fast forward or rewind within a song.
While FlipSide comes with the features expected of any MP3 player, the feature that gets the most buzz is the attractive user interface that makes FlipSide both visually enjoyable and very easy to use. Its ability to “swoosh” through the full-color cover art of an entire music collection within seconds using the navigation control button makes FlipSide stand-out as both a simple and fun MP3 player. FlipSide downloads and displays the cover art of each album and even links to FlipSide Extras to provide biographies of the artists, recommendations for similar artists and more.
FlipSide for Windows Mobile plays music stored on memory cards in MP3 & WMA formats. FlipSide retails for $19.95 and a free trial download is available now from the FlipSide website at http://flipside.fm.
As I’ll usually do when I get a product announcement, I forwarded this release to the team to see if anyone might be interested in covering the item or reviewing the product…and then their emails started rolling in. It wasn’t long before we had another full blown GearChat Roundtable on our hands.
Sit tight; this one was a doozy…
