One of the things I absolutely love to do with a mobile device is customize it to meet my needs. As many BlackBerry users know, one of the simplest ways to begin to customize a ‘Berry UI is to use themes. Back in September, Dan did a great job covering BlackBerry themes when he was setting up his new Bold — and last month Wayne showed off a beautiful HTC Hero BlackBerry theme he was using for his device.
Honestly, it is extremely rare that I find a theme that creates any excitement for me — or one that I would take the time to post here on Gear Diary. This week, that changed. I saw an update a few days ago from a BlackBerry guru who goes by the handle “N8D” (if you’re not familiar with N8D, I highly recommend you take a few minutes to view some of his BlackBerry videos — including device disassembly instructions and a very thorough BlackBerry model comparison). So, when N8D commented that the Transitions theme for BlackBerry was “the best theme made for BB E.V.E.R.” I quickly took note. What I found was that it is not only an awesome premium theme for BlackBerry devices, but it may also be the very best theme you can get for a very low price. Interested? Let’s take a closer look and see it in action …

Last week I discovered that I had neglected to put a document I needed into Evernote. Instead of being on my MacBook where I needed it, it was sitting at home on my iMac. No problem… I simply used LogMeIn Ignition to access my iMac (just the way I did in the above picture), I grabbed the document and I emailed it to myself. Problem solved.

This 42″ LG Plasma TV is an intriguing deal for a few reasons. First it includes a Panasonic Blu-ray player and hook-up kit – both expensive options that many buyers will need. Secondly it includes free shipping- order it from here just to watch the UPS guy lug all 112 lbs up your steps. The site claims that if purchased separately you could expect to pay over $800 (Amazon lists the TV alone at $605).

If you are a fan of modern classical composition, you are likely aware of the minimalist movement and composers such as Steve Reich, Terry Riley, John Adams, and Philip Glass. Glass gained fame in the 70’s for his operatic work ‘Einstein on the Beach’, and has been heard in many films with Academy Award nominations for Kundun, The Hours, and Notes on a Scandal. His work is not nearly as avant-garde as Riley, nor as rhythmically challenging as Reich, nor as epic as Adams, instead offering a combination of stark soundscapes, touching melodies, and passionate movements.

This Linksys wireless router offers simultaneous dual band Wi-Fi connections and is like having two wireless routers inside one box. Most computers (and many mobile devices) support Wi-Fi. Some make exclusive use of the 2.4 GHZ frequencies – however many devices now will allow use of the less crowded 5 GHZ (check your device specs first). This Linksys can support multiple devices with different frequency use. It lets you use the more common 2.4 GHZ connection for connecting to less speed intensive destinations like checking email and posting Halloween pictures to facebook. Use the less crowded and presumably faster 5 GHZ connection for music, gaming and high-definition video. There are also four Gigabit Ethernet ports for cabled connections as well as a USB port for connecting and sharing a hard drive or memory stick. Use coupon code AFFHOL09WK1 for $15 off which brings your net cost to $94.99.
