LapLogic Aerogel Extreme - Keepin’ It Cool

If you have a laptop built in the last couple of years, then odds are good that you’ve experienced the heat, maybe even the burn, of having th laptop sit on your lap. Many of the newest laptops get extremely hot, even with internal fans trying to keep the heat down.  LapLogic is offering a cooling solution called the Laplogic Aerogel Extreme that is made with Aerogel (from a company called Aspen) that promises to offer you a more pleasant, cooler, computing experience.

The Very Intelligente Pocket

No, I did not spell that wrong. ;-)

Many women swap their gear between bags quite often, and one of the problems with doing so is that it can be hard to make sure that you have actually transferred everything you’ll need from the first bag to the second.

Tintemar has created a product that holds the basics in place, inside their special compartmentalized bag which can be slipped into other bags or even carried on its own. Say hello to the Very Intelligente Pocket, which Alison introduced me to this morning.

The VIP has slots for your wallet, digital music player, PDA, mobile phone, keys, lipstick, meds, lotions, all the “crap” that we like to load ourselves down with. Hey, we may not always need it, but it’s good to have it when we do!

There are different sizes and different configurations available  - both for men and women, and the prices appear to range from 30.00 to 40.00€.

Go Speed Racer, gooooooooo!

I am still singing the theme song in my head, over and over.

I could not wait until lunchtime today to sneak out and see the movie. I found a theater nearby with a midnight (12:01am) showing, so I was there.

First stop - snack bar, to get hopped-up on junior mints and an extra jumbo Pibb Xtra. I haven’t been up this late by choice since I cannot remember.

“How was the movie?” you ask?

Wellllll…………

(SPOILER ALERT! DO NOT CONTINUE READING IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE MOVIE. GO SEE IT AND THEN RETURN HERE TO READ MY REVIEW!)

The Cultural Gaming Shift

We have been talking a lot lately how the gaming industry is rapidly changing into a mainstream entertainment industry. The years of 2007 and 2008 are turning points for this industry as PC gaming is declining into old age and death and the consoles are rising to complete domination. The 360 and PS3, and to some extent the Wii (I have very mixed feelings about the Wii as a gaming console), are not only fantastic gaming consoles but they are media platforms on steroids too. They are important players in home entertainment and living room evolution.

Let’s just look at the sales as I think it’s really interesting. There were some pretty fantastic games in 2006-2007 like, Gears of War, Uncharted, Bioshock, the fabulous Orange Box, etc. However, the hype around the release of Halo 3 last September was really something else. In the 24 hours after its release, Halo 3 earned 170 million dollars. That never happened for an entertainment product, movie or music record. Halo 3 would go on earning 300 million dollars in the first week.

Standard Def HD..?

Comcast uses the less is more strategy in delivering HD content.  What’s up with that..??

I saw this over at BetaNews, and again, just had to comment. I’ve got Comcast at the house and have their HD/DVR TV package as well as their mid-tier Internet package, and VoIP phone service. My TV package includes their sports package (I wanted to get the NFL Channel as well as ESPN-HD so I could get my NFL Football games in HD.  My average, monthly cable bill runs between $200-$225 dollars, depending on any On-Demand Movies I purchase.

When Good Opinions Go Bad

As part of the Gear Diary team, part of what I try to do is wander the Internet looking for useful things to share. Lately, I’ve noticed a disturbing trend on the Internet - people presenting their personal opinions as if what they say is fact.

Let’s be clear - stating an opinion on the net is nothing new. Hey, I’m doing that right now! What seems to be happening with increasing frequency though, is that someone will make a statement online, others will pick it up and spread it, and before you know it people are repeating the original opinion as if it’s a hard fact; when, in fact it was really just someone’s opinion.

Rumor and opinion suddenly become fact, and it’s just wrong. Worse - it seems to be happening more and more.

Microsoft Vista SP1 Update Rereleased

Microsoft has stopped the SP1 Prereq Merry-Go-Round…

Vista SP1 has been available for a little bit, but hasn’t hit many computers in the wild due to a problem with one of the prereq KB installs.  Two months ago, when the prereq was released, it sent some computers into an endless series of reboots.  Many users stuck in that loop were without any recourse as they watched the scenery blur as they went in circles on that merry-go-round from hell.

Unclogging Your Pipes

It’s a beautiful weekend and there is no better time to finally unclog that drain. I was lounging on the couch getting inspired by “Ask This Old House”. The resident plumber was describing all of the necessary tools to unclog one’s drain from using snakes and plungers. One method of using a plunger is to push the clog past the trap onward to the local filtration plant, but that method takes a lot of plunging. He did mention “pulling the clog” by suction. DON”T DO IT! It just results in a sink full of nastiness, like a mini Exxon oil spill in your sink. Trust me – do not try this at home!

So what’s a good husband to do? Here’s a tip to be the Plunger King of your abode:

The Clone Wars - The Real Deal vs. Psystar

So is it truly about the EULA, Apple wanting control, or is it something else entirely?

Over the last couple of weeks, there’s been a lot of press about Psystar, the web-based organization who has defied all speculation that it was a fly-by-night scam artist. The company emphatically insists that it’s a legitimate business who simply had payment processing issues to overcome regarding its highly publicized Mac clone/compatible PC’s. According to a post on its home page, http://www.psystar.com/, their online store is back up, in business; and orders placed during the week of 07-Apr-08 are currently shipping.
