It has been found that on an average 1 out of every 7 minutes U.S online users spends their time in using Facebook .
As a result speculation of what a Facebook IPO (initial public offering, in other words becoming a publically traded stock) might look like has run rampant.
Carly sent along an article at BusinessWeek that discusses how the massive IPO would further illuminate the dependance of California on capital gains taxes and how the volatility - particularly with the economic downturn the last few years - has hurt the state, saying it
shows the boom-and-bust cycle that capital gains taxes often inflict on California’s budget. In fact, capital-gains tax revenue as a percentage of the state’s general fund plummeted from 12 percent to just 3 percent between 2007 and 2009 as investors pulled away from the stock market, a decline of $9.3 billion, according to state finance department figures.
“It is a significant concern,” said Gabriel Petek, an analyst at Standard & Poor’s, which ranks California’s credit the worst among its peers at A-. “It’s probably one of the things that presents a structural impediment to the rating and makes it hard for the state’s credit rating to move up into the AA range that the typical state is.”
Now we have an infographic that breaks down the estimated 10+ billion IPO (6x bigger than Google's 2004 IPO), the 25 BILLION Mark Zuckerberg could make, and more! Well, Rounds for Facebook has kinda smooshed them all together and gives you a Facebook video chat gaming kinda thing to do with your remote pals. I'm not a big Facebook guy myself--I simply don't trust their security (or should I say, "security")--but let's face it: I'm in the minority.

I'll keep this short: I use IM+ all the time, both the iPhone and iPad app version, and online via their web interface. I find it an enormous help. Maggie, my 16 year-old daughter, also uses it regularly, so you can see that it's <a

But on a holiday weekend there is even more cause for concern: I got a notice that my high school graduating class is having an informal mini-reunion, and my brother is going to his 30th high school reunion, meaning there are more opportunities than ever to come face to face with someone who has unfriended you.
Fortunately William Shatner is here to help. Watch and enjoy! <a

Here's what EgoBook says:
EgoBook now exists in a brand new Large Format (21x27cm), with a rigid cover (hardcover).

For iPad users the '1x/2x' screen doubling for iPhone apps is the bane of their existence, and for Android tablet users they often find that their favorite apps simply aren't available on the Android Market. Facebook is one of the worst offenders of this - though they ironically have one of their best versions for the now defunct webOS platform!

Do you like Facebook games? If so ... rejoice, because The Sims Social has arrived! The game will be immediately familiar to anyone who has ever played a Sims game: you set up your character, then start doing some basic tasks, and slowly built a life for your Sim including interactions with others. The image below shows the basic starting point for a character.<p

Okay, maybe not. But Facebook is still a huge--well, it's not an application, so I don't know what you'd call it; phenomenon? Web utility? Anyway, it's big. But it still has a few components missing, like for example the ability to create a book. EgoBook is a Facebook app that allows you to create a book from status updates, wall messages, and all sorts of other Facebooky stuff. And while Facebook isn't as pervasive as it used to be, it's still big, so you should <a

Most companies take a dim view of employees taking their internal grievances to the masses, no doubt distrusting how quickly <a

Facebook Places allows users to share with friends their current location, tag important places ("where I made my first text message"), and perhaps meet others who are near by. This feature leverages the current technology of "Check-Ins" by using the GPS location on the user's phone. These location-based tools were previously only available on applications like Foursquare, Gowalla, Brightkite, Twitter and Yelp! But having Facebook enter this location-based app market raises potential privacy and safety concerns.
While many are excited to see this next level for Facebook, there are a number <a

I tweet. I run a website. I have a Facebook page. Gear Diary has two Facebook pages. But sometimes ... sometimes it just goes too far. Sometimes people lose site of the public nature of these things ... or maybe it is just that they don't use good judgment. Regardless of the reasons, let me tell you a story...
Two couples I know divorced earlier this year; ironically they were finalized on the same day, but in each case I had no idea that their marriages were even in trouble, that they had separated, or that they had been divorced until after the fact. Both of these women are Facebook Friends, and they <a

But some things, one would think, are sacrosanct. You're still going to sell out of even bad cardboard cafe' pizza on Pizza Day. You're still going to have the "steady droner" teachers who put everyone to sleep. You're still going to have law-flouting, heavily-testosteroned maniacs pulling weird pranks (our High School: stealing a Howitzer from the local weapons station and parking it in the gym). You're still Flickpad from Shacked Software is a really fun way to view photos from your Facebook friends on the iPad. The application takes full advantage of the iPad's multitouch features to allow you to quickly browse through pictures from your friends in a way that's extremely intuitive and actually a ton of fun.
Once you load the app, and after you've entered your Facebook account information (only required once) it will show you all your unseen pictures from your Facebook contacts. By default the app loads all new pictures from the day you first launch it but you can move the date back and look at pictures you've missed too <a

If you have been living under a rock here's what happened. A Facebook campaign to get Betty White to host Saturday Night Live built up enough steam that SNL actually invited her to host. At 88 1/2 White is still wicked funny and and comedic timing that is unparalleled.
She used the monologue to thank Facebook for making it possible for her to host... and then promptly cut Facebook down to size for being a huge waste of time. Best line- "In my day we didn't have Facebook... we had phonebook... and we didn't waste an afternoon on it."
Enjoy...<p
