With ReelDirector App Flip Loses Key Advantage Over iPhone

The iPhone shoots video that is “good enough”. The Flip UltraHD shoots video that is better. That allows the Flip to maintain a slight edge over the iPhone but just slight. The HUGE advantage the Flip series had was the inclusion of built-in editing software. Once plugged in to a computer, the software popped up and allowed you to trim video and add credits.

That key advantage is now GONE thanks to the $7.99 app ReelDirector. It is pretty impressive… Continue Reading

Flip Video Introduces Next Generation Flip MinoHD

LittleSnapper.png

I love my FlipHD. Although I use my iPhone’s camera to grab video all the time, I still use the Flip numerous times each week. Why? Because it shoots better quality video than the iPhone, and the Flip software makes it so easy to edit clips, convert them into short, polished movies and share the finished product.

Now Flip has introduced the next generation Flip MinoHD. It has a sleek new design, offers up to two hours of recording time, and has a large high-resolution screen. Moreover, Flip has also introduced the latest version of their awesome pre-loaded FlipShare(TM) software. It now includes the ability to directly upload videos to Facebook.

The original Flip MinoHD offers on hour of recording time and retails for $199. The new Flip MinoHD is priced at $229. Details at the company website.

$10 off any Flip Camera and Free Shipping

Flip Back to School

Flip, the company which makes those tiny little point and shoot video cameras, is running a back to school special.

Order any Flip camera from the Flip web site from now until August 30th, and you can save $10 and get free shipping by using the promo code:  FLIP10.

The promotion says the Flip camera’s are perfect for class, sharing and fun.  I agree with the sharing and fun part but am not convinced your teachers would want you using them in the middle of class.

Flip has really been slashing prices lately.  Just a few days ago Dan posted on the 60 minute Mino being on Woot for only $69.99 and now Buy.com has the original Mino for $49.99

Check out the entire line of Flip cameras on the company’s web site.

woot! Grab A Flip Mino 60 Minute For Under $70

Flip Mino

I admit it, my iPhone 3GS has spoiled me. Since getting it I have barely used my Pure Digital Flip Camcorders. It’s not because Flip’s offerings aren’t good though. Quite the contrary. Flip’s cameras get the job done and they get it done well.

Smaller and lighter than the original Flip or the UltraHD, the Flip Mino brings some style to the boxy camcorders. Sure it is looking increasingly likely that you’ll be able to get an iPod touch or nano with integrated video soon, but at $69.99 this Mino 60 is a steal.

Grab it here.

Flip Mino Camcorder with AC Adapter (60 Min) – $129

flip mino camcorder.jpg

Amazon has the 60 minute Flip Mino recorder on sale for only $129. This represents a savings of about $30 over the normal price. Included is an AC charger, 2GB of on-board memory, 2x digital zoom and USB connecting arm for easy upload of video. While the iPhone 3GS has grabbed the spotlight with its new mobile video capabilities I still find occasions where I prefer to use a standalone video camera such as when I’m at the beach or having other people use the camera. Need more capacity? The 120 min version is only $50 more.

Flip Video Announces Flip Channels

p1020628

When it was announced that the new iPhone 3G S would not only include video recording but onboard editing and uploading as well, I was of two minds.

One part of me was excited. Clearly this would be something I would be using a lot. After all, although the iPhone 3G’s camera wasn’t the best, it was with me all the time and, as a result, it is the camera I use the most. The ability to take pictures on the go, do some basic (and not so basic) editing and upload them to the web is fantastic. The thought of having the ability to do video in the same way was nothing short of awesome.

The other part of me, however, was concerned about the impact that this would have on a little device I have come to truly appreciate- my Flip Video camcorder. What impact, I wondered, would the iPhone have on Flip Video’s growing dominance in the portable video market?  And what, if anything, would Flip do to respond? We have some early answers in the form of a new service just being announced.

Will The Next iPhone Transform Mobile Video Forever?

iPhone Flip UltraHD

Earlier today I did a quick post on whatsoniphone about an article in Business Week regarding recent speculation that the next generation iPhone will bring on-the-go video recording in a big way. One sentence in the piece jumped out at me. It said, “Evidently, shooting video is as easy as it is with a Flip, the ingenious device made by Pure Digital.”

Having now used the new Flip UltraHD since it arrived on Friday this piqued my interest. What does it mean for Flip and other handheld video devices if Apple does, indeed, make the move into mobile video. I have a few thoughts…

Flip VideoTM Introduces Flip UltraTM and Flip UltraHDTM

flipultra

I have Flip Mino from Pure Digital and I absolutely love it. It is small, light, easy to use and makes transferring video to my iMac absolutely simple! It goes everywhere with me these days. Best of all, the image quality is quite good.

Pure Digital just announced some additions to their lineup and they look great! The new Flip Ultra and Flip UltraHD offer two hours of recording time, a large high-resolution two-inch screen, and the ability to recharge it through the built-in USB arm.

At an MSRP of $149 and $199 they are nicely priced for such high-definition, yet imminently portable, cameras.

New Flip Mino Designs and Free Accessories on Amazon

Flip

Customizable Flip Minos have been available for a while now, but if you want one that’s been professionally designed, Amazon and CafePress have just introduced several new designs by ‘talented artists and well-known designers’.

Through April 19, you’ll get two free accessories of your choice with the purchase of a MinoHD, and one free accessory with the normal Mino. Unfortunately, the range of eligible accessories isn’t vast – several cases, a tripod and a set of USB cables – but for a basic camcorder like the Mino, those are pretty much all the accessories you’ll need.

Your Valentine Will Flip Over This

minohd_valentines_04

If you’re dating a gadget guy or girl, getting them a gift for a special occasion such as Valentines Day, which ack! – is just around the corner (!!), can be a bit of a challenge.

That’s why I thought the newly designable Flip Minos were such a great idea. You can get them in either the HD version with 4GB ($229), or the slim version with 2GB ($179), and the best part is that there is no extra cost to use the Valentines Day related designs in Flip’s online gallery or to upload your own images and create something truly special. You can even buy a gift certificate if your creative juices have completely dried.

Valentines Day designs will be available soon at Cafe Press; in the meantime, here are two more styles to tide you over…
