Yeah, you may have spent all week painstakingly crafting your Balloon Boy costume, but you have nothing on these two guys from Tampa, FL. Reko Rivera and John Savio made what is believed to be the world’s very first “working” iPhone cosutumes, featuring a 42″ display and 1.5 hours of battery life. Their 85 lb costumes feature changing displays that feature a variety of apps displayed directly from their actual iPhones via USB connection, and a runtime of 4.5 hours before needing to be charged overnight.

Recently I’ve been working on a Netbook Gamer for one of my favorite games, Divine Divinity. I was writing a comment about one of my favorite scenes from the game … and decided to seek out a video to show the scene. But rather than making you wait for the Netbook Gamer review, let’s take a look at it now in the spirit of Halloween!

At the beginning of the week an important annual event happened in our household. It was the annual “turning on of the heat”. The ceremonial first day you realize it’s too cold in the morning to heat the kitchen using only an open oven door. Right behind the opening day of heater use comes another annual October event – Halloween. None of our pumpkins will look anywhere near as good as most of 130 that walyou.com has rounded captured in their photo collection.

I suspect that we are going to see quite a few seasonal versions of mobile games this holiday season, and one of the first is for a Handy Games’ title. You might remember Larry’s review of Tattoo Mania last month, and if the idea of inking cartoon people instead of getting your own tattoo is appealing, then this game might be for you.
Calling “listening to the pained screams of your male and female customers” a selling point is interesting, but to each their own!
HandyGames TatooMania Halloween Edition is available for 99¢ at the App Store.

Sure this skull will look great sitting on the coffee table or your desk at work – but imagine the fun your kids will have taking it with them trick-or-treating. In our state kids are provided with a flimsy cardboard Unicef box to collect money while also panhandling candy. Instead of flimsy cardboard how about a sturdy skull bank to help boost their collection efforts? Each Skull money box is made from resin and finished in realistic colors, with a slot at the back for depositing your coins and a replaceable rubber opening on the bottom for withdrawals.

The creators of this Jedi bathrobe may have latched onto a hot new clothing market. Did you know that according to Wikipedia over half a million people throughout the world declared themselves as Jedi on their census forms? While I think that might be considered to be a practical joke and probably doesn’t reflect the real number of Jedi in the countries concerned – there’s still got to be a fair number that would buy this bathrobe.
The Jedi Dressing Gown has a Jedi logo embroidered on the front, is made of 100% cotton velour and is machine washable. It has 2 front pockets and a cotton belt. The dressing gown is 1 size and will fit adults. The bath robe is approx 144 cm long with a 62 cm chest. Sleeve length 62 cm. Would a real Jedi use a washer to clean this? How about using some force? Available November 27, 2009.

I keep thinking that I’ll buy a periodic table shower curtain for the guest bathroom, as it just seems like such a natural place to contemplate science and the elements. While that would be fine for most of the year, there is a certain season when something a little more macabre might be in order; the perfect items to compliment that time of year just showed up in my inbox…
Not for the weak of heart, the UK company Spinning Hat has introduced the Blood Bath shower curtain and the Blood Bath bath mat. There’s also a Butcher’s apron and a set of Dead Tired pillow cases. If you have a strong stomach and a wicked sense of humor, you won’t be able to resist.

These days, information about upcoming movie (and music and game and TV show and …) is so quickly available and so widely disseminated that it is hard to remember a time when you could walk into a record store or theater and get a true surprise. Today marks the 30th anniversary of one such surprise – the theatrical trailer of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. At that time there were no ‘episodes’ and the overall look was quite different.
Narrated by Harrison Ford (yup, that’s Han hamming it up with his best 1930s announcer impression), the trailer contains a few noteworthy gems, such as the famously cut “Threepio ripping the sign off the door” shot. Originally, the invading Imperials were to enter the door, sans warning sign, to be subsequently attacked by a pack of angry wampas. The sequence was ultimately cut from the film, but not before this small hint of its existence was forever immortalized by the trailer (you can read a bit more about this sequence in our wampa databank entry).
The trailer is definitely still worth watching, as it offers the first glimpse of what many consider the best film of the series, but is missing several key elements such lightsaber combat and Yoda. Harrison Ford’s voice-over is amazing to hear, and it definitely sets up a movie in a different tone than what comes to mind in my memory.

Try as I might I’ve never quite mastered the use of chopsticks. I can fake it pretty well but it’s embarrassing to see how fast others at the table can maneuver. Now there’s a cool alternative to the boring wood chopstick. These lightsaber chopsticks are clearly fashioned after Star Wars and are named after the characters – Darth Vader Saber Chopstick, Luke Skywalker Saber Chopstick, and Yoda Saber Chopstick. No word on whether these light up and make authentic sounds.

While he isn’t busy playing critical video, serving drinks on space barges, unlocking doors, hacking computers, calculating hyperspace jumps or whistling innocently while insulting his counterpart C3PO, R2D2 has a new function – holding your tissues!
This new decorative accessory apparently follows a spate of other R2D2-themed product that hit Japan last year. The tissue holder is designed for round-roll facial tissue and is too short to accommodate a paper towel rolls by a few inches according to the NCSX Shop site.
Of course, at that size it is probably about the right height to hold other round roll tissue products …

Today’s Woot! offers you a way to reveal your inner Star Wars geek (as if you hadn’t already!) while dressing up your cubicle: $29.99 gets you one of two sets of six bobble heads.
It may take a bit of planning to figure out where they’ll each go, as these aren’t puny little stand-ins, they are each about 7″ tall…
Unfortunately my favorites aren’t here. There’s no Han Solo, no R2D2, and no Padmé Amadala with her distinctive lipstick applying skills. Oh well, at least I can console myself with some Boba Fett and Darth Maul action.
Want in on it? Then I suspect you had better hurry. Like all Woot! deals, these are one day only. And when they are gone, Woot! won’t be handing out rain checks…

Well, here we are. The last week before the holidays. Channukah starts Sunday and Christmas will follow just a few short days later. And to be honest, I have no idea what day is supposed to be Festivus. Many of us are ready. The presents are hidden and waiting to be wrapped, purchases have been finalized, and it will be weeks before that final credit card bill shows up in your mailbox. To some of you, however, the last days before the holidays means time to start thinking about a gift. Yikes! But don’t panic. This article is for you late starters. Today, I want to take a look at two potential gifts for the gadget lovers in your life: The Wii Saber from DreamGear and the surprisingly cool Duck Bill Money Clip. Before you tear your way through those empty shelves looking for the best of what’s left, take a look at these.

It’s almost Halloween and you know what that means, right? Time for the “Parade of Carved Pumpkins”. Somehow my pumpkins never look like this. Eran Abramson of web site Waylou.com has spent some time compiling over 34 different quirky pumpking pictures. Of course there’s Darth Vader, Yoda, The Death Star, Pac Man and of course what better to decorate your doorstep than Jack Torrance from the Shining!
