…for a costume party with a twist!
Halloween is almost upon us, and Ilium Software - the creators of such fabulous software as eWallet and ListPro - has sent word that they will be holding an unusual competition: they would like participants to dress up the two “Ilium Guys”.
As Julie from Ilium says, “They’re the two people-shaped “i’s” in our logo. A while ago, Marc decided to dress them up a bit just for fun, like so:
Well, I’m sure you can guess what I’m getting at by now. We can’t let our little Ilium Guys go without a cool Halloween costume to wear. But we need your help! So, from now until Halloween (this Friday) at noon EST, you get a chance to get creative, have fun, go all out, and dress up our Ilium Guys in whatever costume you’d like to see them in.

As a long time user of Ilium Software’s fabulous program eWallet, I was one of the many who couldn’t wait for them to bring the program to the iPhone. They brought it, I loaded it…and then I hit a few syncing snags.
But with a bit of tech support I am glad to say that eWallet is now up and running - and syncing flawlessly - between my iPhone and the Windows portion of my MacBook Pro.
Read on if you’ve been having troubles, too…

One of the things that I love about this biz is the opportunity to hook up with some really awesome people. Case in point - Ilium Software… Ellen Craw, one of the driving forces over at Ilium must have the inside track on finding awesome people. EVERYONE that I have dealt with over there is just fabulous to work with. Its really quite amazing… (Where the heck does she find them all?!)
Anyway, with the release of Ilium software’s eWallet for iPhone over the weekend, the burning question has been put to me a number of different times: When will the iPhone version have desktop sync?? Funny you should ask… I just got off the phone with Ellen, and she said the word, “August;” but also said that August 2008 is very aggressive. However, its something that is on their immediate to do list.
Existing eWallet customers that have *.wlt files will eventually be able to sync their existing wallet files with the iPhone version of eWallet. However, Ellen didn’t have the techical details for me (i.e. whether the sync is done directly via eWallet , as with the existing WM version, or whether it will be done with iTunes). It is not known whether iTunes will need to be installed to provide the sync conduit, or not. All of these technical details are still pending desgin/development.
HOWEVER, if you are wanting the total and complete scoop, including timing and any other juicy tid-bits, you need to check out Ilium Software’s Blog. You’ll find all sorts of cool information there.

This give-away is now closed; thank you to all who participated. We’ll be posting winners names shortly…
If you have been following the Gear Diary Team’s posts for any amount of time, then you’d know that those of us who use Palm and Windows Mobile devices hold the products from Ilium Software in the highest regard. I have personally loaded eWallet and ListPro on just about every Palm or Pocket PC/windows Mobile device that I’ve owned, and more recently I have also come to rely on NewsBreak in the same way; according to FeedBurner, 30% of Gear Diary’s RSS subscribers feel the same about NewsBreak. But I digress.
We have been offered five registered copies of eWallet and ListPro to give to our readers, and today seems like as good a day as any to kick off this new give-away.
Here is how you can win:
Tell us about the method you use to remember your passwords - whatever it may be. [extra points for really imaginative or particularly unsafe methods]
or
Tell us how you think ListPro might help make your life easier.
Leave your entry in the comments of this post, and we will pick five winners of each program on Sunday, July 20th at 5:30CST.
Good Luck! ![]()

I was on the train this morning, fighting sleep while reading through some RSS threads via ilium Software’s NewsBreak (love their apps…) when I noticed this. According to The Register, Apple hasn’t patched the iPhone for any security vulnerabilities since, like, February 2008.
The latest version of the software for the iPhone, 1.1.4, came out in February and is essentially a pared-down version of Mac OS 10.5, according to security researchers. As a result the Jesus phone is still vulnerable to an exploit demonstrated by Charlie Miller at the CanSec West security conference back in March. Miller used a bug in Apple WebKit, as used in versions of Safari prior to version 3.1.1, to win a $10,000 prize in the “Pwn to Own” contest at the conference.
This isn’t the only security problem the iPhone has, either. There are other, admitedly, not as critical flaws/bugs that, for example, might allow phishing attacks. Details of this vulnerability are being withheld until Apple can issue a patch to plug the hole.
Let me suggest this: Apple needs to get on the stick and insure that the v2.0 software update has all of this stuff plugged before the iPhone 3G goes GA this Friday, 11-Jul-08. The last thing I think Apple wants is something like this marring what could be the biggest hardware release of the year.

Here is a heads-up: Julie, our lovely contact at Ilium Software, has written to give us early notice that their 11th anniversary party is in the works; of course this means that we’ll get a chance to score some party favors…
We’re planning a week-long celebration, with a contest each day. We’ll be giving away Amazon gift cards, as well as copies of our software. The contests will be run on our blog, at http://blog.iliumsoft.com, from Monday, June 2nd, through Friday, June 6th.
And, since no anniversary party would be complete without a big sale, we’re having one of those too! For five days, we’ll be offering a 55% discount off the regular price of all of our software. The link to the anniversary sale page will be: http://www.iliumsoft.com/elevenyears (The page isn’t live yet but it will be there on Monday!)
More info coming soon, but until then - keep your eye on the Ilium Blog.
