Who would buy this?" And then sometimes there are ideas so smart you think, "Wow! Why didn't anyone do this sooner?" Finally, there's the "GREAT idea, poor execution" accessory. The Kingston Wi-Drive fits into one of these categories, but you will have to read to the end to find out which one! <a

One of my favorite stops at CES was the mimobot booth and certainly for good reason. If you are a fan of Star Wars or any comic book heroes then mimobot probably has something for you. Thomas an I had a nice conversation with Evan who was working the booth that day and he hooked us up with a review unit of the Han Solo 4GB flash drive. There were plenty <a

I had a chance to swing by the Victorinox booth to check out their 2012 product offerings. The only real highlight on their storage front was their Swiss Army-inspired USB stick. This was the first USB 3.0 flash device that I've seen built into a small thumb stick form factor, and who better to build it than Victorinox. They had a few prototypes on display with a "later this year" promised release date and price. The build quality, high capacity, and speed put this drive right on my 2012 "want list". The top brand drives all offer that stuff, so what makes you choose one $20 8GB drive over another?
Kingston is hoping that their urDrive software embedded in the DataTraveler 109 will offer users a differentiating factor that will be a deciding factor for a purchase. Let's take a quick look! The Hype: Kingston's DataTraveler® 109 is a fashionable USB Flash drive available in seven colors that make it fun to connect and share photos, music, videos and more with friends and family. Brinell feels that they don't want that dullness to extend to peripherals, either, so they've taken some time and expended some effort to makes stuff that looks--let's face it--pretty! Now, I don't have a generic thumb drive myself: I use a rather pricy one by Corsair called The Survivor, which has a case that looks like <a

According to reports, the deal is tied to phones using HTC's new 'Sense 3.5' UI overlay.
Drop Box gives users 2GB for free, so this is an extra 150% for free - plus HTC will pre-load the DropBox app on all new phones.
This appears to be yet another reaction to Apple's iCloud service, which offers 5GB free storage to anyone using an iOS 5 device. Microsoft offers 25GB of SkyDrive storage to Windows Phone users.
As of right now the offer is limited to Android phones <a

Not long ago Seagate rolled out the slimmest portable hard drive on the market, the GoFlex Slim. <a

At the time all we were allowed to write about it was this:
Concept drive – We also saw a drive that is not yet named but will be out late spring (pictured above). Think about all of the things that you keep on your computer. January 3rd through 9th was a great week spent with friends -- some old and some new -- tons of gadgets, massive crowds, and -- yet again -- lousy AT&T cell reception. The week our ability to "work" CES was greatly helped by a number of companies, and we would like to take a moment to extend our thanks to them ...<p

Check out the IoSafe site, and read about their specifications and guarantees. I can think of no other company Seagate, where we got a look at some of their new 2011 hard drives. Streaming content, networked backups, and smaller hard drives with faster speeds were some of the highlights.
A new partnership with Gear Diary favorite ioSafe was a pleasant surprise. And we look forward to learning more tomorrow since details were scant. This was the statement we got from ioSafe:
ioSafe and Seagate have complementary technologies and are working collaboratively to provide solutions that will make it easier for customers to better protect their data. Stay tuned for more news!
Intriguing!

I'm talking about keeping it safe from hackers though. Sure that's important but what I'm talking about it keeping it safe from life. With three kids at home I've got thousands and thousands of memories, in the form of digital pictures, stored on various hard drives. From time to time I take one of the portable hard drives with me, to a family members house, or on the road. Life has a tendency to throw bumps and bruises our way from time to time and making sure nothing happens to my digital media when it's away from home is paramount <a

If you haven't yet picked up an ioSafe drive of your own here are two deals worth checking out. Having an ioSafe drive means your precious files will always be protected, whether they are business documents or family photos. <a

My favorite is the penguin, Badtz Maru. While he doesn't look like <a

After the initial build is completed and tested the worst part of it all (for me at least) is the distribution to all the machines that need it. There has been cases where I had a few hundred machines, and then sometimes it's as little as 12-15. Either way, my favorite methods of imaging machines are the ones that are the most hands off. I've been through my share of software solutions that work very well, but the worst part is all the setup that's required and the amount of times you have to touch the machine to get it going <a

With lower power consumption, lower heat, and blazing fast speeds they are quickly finding their way into desktops, laptops, and servers. The biggest problem is that the price per GB is absolutely rediculous compared to a newer HDD that are now well into the 1TB range for $100 or less. Newegg had a <a
