Welcome back to the GearGames weekly video game release feature here at Gear Diary! After a few weeks off as the holidays more or less killed releases, we are starting to see a few new games. The three big games this week are Jagged Alliance - Back in Action and ... oh yeah, that Playstation Vita thing. This week brings the special early adopters bundle, and a bunch of games are hitting stores as well. Early looks are no surprise - great hardware, extremely locked down transfer options, and pretty crappy PSP game compatibility. Jagged Alliance is one of the great franchises, and although it is also getting a re-make as a shooter, strategy fans are more excited for this great looking strategy game reboot. We might not be getting a true turn-based game - this is the classic 'Real-Time with Pause', but it is still a fun addition to the franchise and much better than many feared. Welcome back to the GearGames weekly video game release feature here at Gear Diary! After a few weeks off as the holidays more or less killed releases, we are starting to see a few new games. The three big games this week are The Darkness II , Jagged Alliance - Back in Action and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning . The original Darkness game was a bit of a sleeper, getting solid reviews but not immediately gaining the commercial success it deserved. Since then it has become a definite fave for many gamers, making the arrival of the sequel even more exciting. Jagged Alliance is one of the great franchises, and although it is also getting a re-make as a shooter, strategy fans are more excited for this great looking strategy game reboot. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is the highly anticipated first title from 38 Studios, headed by former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling. The demo met with decidedly mixed reviews, with fairly negative feedback particularly from PC gamers. Schilling has been on the forums touting the changes and advances from the demo to the release (and spouting off on just about everything, apparently), so hopefully the troubles with the demo will be rectified. Despite a rather slow start, the Nintendo 3DS has emerged as quite a success over the last few months. While much of that is due to the massive price cut, the 3DS features a great library. Mike Siebenaler has done a great job covering the 3DS, including recent looks at the Ambassador program and the recent Super Mario 3D Land game. The contrast between the hundred plus releases last week and the couple of dozen this week shows that we are now in the slide into the holidays and the big releases are done. Well, almost - we have The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Wii this week, which had been listed for last week on some sites. Nintendo hasn't had a great year - the Wii, which spent a few years atop the sales charts is now lagging badly behind. Nintendo is having a great ongoing 25th Anniversary of Zelda celebration, and as part of that, they have released The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition today as a free DSiWare download. The updated game will be available to download FREE on DSi and 3DS, but for a "limited time only." Welcome back to the GearGames weekly video game release feature here at Gear Diary! We finally have a big release again! Deus Ex: Human Revolution lands for PC, XBOX360 and PS3! I already have it pre-loaded into Steam to start playing immediately upon release. While Nintendo has had tremendous success in the handheld gaming market, pretty much owning the category since introducing the Game Boy back in 1989 ... they have not fared as well in the new world order defined by smartphones! The result has been lower than expected sales and a price cut for the new 3DS system. The hope on the part of many is that the lower price, along with games such as Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and a fall release slate filled with anticipated titles will help propel the system into a successful holiday season. A few weeks ago I wrote about how Nintendo was dropping the price on the 3DS as of August 12th and rewarding 'early adopters' who own a 3DS and log into their eShop by August 11th with 20 free games. Yesterday Joystiq noted that Walmart stores had jumped the gun and were pricing the 3DS at $169.99. Today they bring word that Target has also jumped into the early discount pricing fray!
