One of my favorite games on the iPhone and iPad to play is MahJong. The speed, or lack thereof, appeals to the slow-moving, bum-reflex old fart in me, and plus I like puzzle games.

One of the better versions of MahJong for the iPad and iPhone is from Astraware, a game maker I quite like. And now they've ported their popular app to the Palm Pre and Pre Plus devices. Ordinarily going for 3 bucks, it's on sale now for only a single ol' George Washington dollar (or "Warshington," as my step-Mom would say). So maybe you should hie on over and check it

If you're a Gear Diary reader and you still haven't tried out Slacker Radio for your iPhone / iPod touch, BlackBerry, Palm webOS or Android smartphone, you're missing out.   We still get responses from people who've read Dan's "Rediscovering The Music of My Youth" feature from February, and have jumped on the Slacker Radio bandwagon.

Although I'm a fan of the Palm Pre, let's just say, the app selection and quality is a 'mixed bag.'  Apps that are mediocre get pretty popular because there are few alternatives and many people have lower expectations.  Sort of like the fact you can't open a mediocre pizza joint in New York City as you'll be out of business in a month.  In other parts of the country, there is much less quality competition so you can pull it off.

Up until now, there have been a handful of NewsReaders, some Homebrew, some app catalog.  Most of the App Catalog news readers are 'dedicated' apps to a particular site such as The New York Times or AP News. The exception is ad supported ExpressNews from Handmark, which aggregates a number of preselected news sites.
