None of this is news - the HP TouchPad was killed after only six weeks of life, and immediately placed on a fire sale which was widely reported and caused an internet-breaking amount of interest. In the ensuing three months, hardly a day has passed without some mention of HP, webOS or the TouchPad - which is a far cry from the yawn-inducing life of webOS prior to that. So, as I say from the start - these last few months since the death of webOS have been the liveliest since the very first announcements! <a

The fact that the hardware is no longer being made basically makes it impossible to to score one unless you stuble upon some old stock leftovers somewhere. Otherwise you can try your chances on Ebay or Craigslist.
There have been a fair share of crappy tablets released in the past few years, mostly third-party resistive screen tablets with some resemblance of Android as the OS <a

'Soft launched' in early July and formally launched a couple of weeks later, the webOS tablet was cancelled with the entire webOS product line by mid-August and existing inventory sold off quickly in a 'fire sale'.
In early August Staples had a big sale paired with a 'weekend coupon' from HP for $100 off, making the TouchPad a delicious $299! Yet I didn't buy one, and <a

The 'item', of course, was the HP TouchPad - recently discontinued and then put on fire sale clearance by HP for $99/$149 for the 16 & 32GB models.

Of course, big geeks that we are, everyone had their own opinion on the new entries to the smartphone and tablet world ... <img

Looks like the wait may have been worth it for WebOS fans, as they'll be getting a Kindle app on the new WebOS Touchpad! They'll also have extra bragging rights since the Touchpad version of Kindle will be the first to support Collections (though presumably this means Android and iOS will be hot on its heels).
What's very vague from the press release is whether Kindle will be coming to the Pre 3 or any other WebOS phones. Amazon doesn't say, and HP didn't mention it during their presentation today. It seems likely, but then again Amazon has ignored WebOS up until this point, and if they're on the <a

I was a big fan. And until Palm started dying on the vine, I continued to purchase Palm devices in favor of other options (we pause now to acknowledge the before-it's-time greatest of my old Tapwave Zodiac). So I was pretty excited to see Palm come out with WebOS and the Pre.
Well, I know it ain't selling all that great, but Astraware hasn't given up, bless 'em, and they are now offering a number of games for webOS. Yay, Astraware! Want <a

Everyone, both tech and consumer alike, likes the interface and smirks a lot at the commercials. But, its a slow adopter.
But, it's a new year, and time to give the Palm Pre and Pixi some more encouragement this coming year.
With that being said, lets hear it for the Palm App store having almost 1,000 applications available for its WebOS platform!! Woohoo! While it pales in comparison to the 20,000 for Android and 100,000 for Apple, that still isn't too bad. You must remember, Palm's App Catalog launched in June with just 30 applications.

Its a nice little post- Christmas gift from Sprint and Palm...and will make many a Pre and Pixi owner a happy happy camper <a

Stories of people losing contacts, calendar data, etc have been pretty common, especially tied in with OS updates and hardware swaps.
The gist of the suit appears to be that Palm not only offered an unreliable web backup, it also did not offer any simple way to make a hard, offline backup of any data in case the web version failed. Sounds vaguely reminiscent of the Although I'm a fan of the Palm Pre, let's just say, the app selection and quality is a 'mixed bag.' Apps that are mediocre get pretty popular because there are few alternatives and many people have lower expectations. Sort of like the fact you can't open a mediocre pizza joint in New York City as you'll be out of business in a month. In other parts of the country, there is much less quality competition so you can pull it off.

Up until now, there have been a handful of NewsReaders, some Homebrew, some app catalog. Most of the App Catalog news readers are 'dedicated' apps to a particular site such as The New York Times or AP News. The exception is ad supported ExpressNews from Handmark, which aggregates a number of preselected news sites.
<p

As a business user, I've always assumed the 'next' new device would be better than the previous device at getting the job done. That job being primarily communicating with colleagues via voice or text. Originally email was the exclusive text method, but of course today we have SMS, IM, Twitter, Facebook etc.
So why am I upset with what Palm has done in their latest 'comeback kid' device, the Palm Pre?

Some of the new operating system features include: a beefed up Palm Synergy that includes LinkedIn contact syncing, more linking across different "flavors" of IM contacts (no word on what flavors), better filtering of your email inbox by typing a search term, ability to download files in the browser, Amazon MP3 downloads now supported from both Wi-Fi and cellular data, and FINALLY cut and paste introduced to web and email. Expect an over-the-air update to webOS 1.2 within the next few days. Oh, and it Bounty with your sweetie. I came to check email during a popcorn break, and found a little surprise in my inbox..
Here is thew newest member of the webOS lineup - the Palm Pixi. It looks like the HTC Tattoo isn't the only phone that means to take personalization to a whole new level, and I've gotta say that at this moment - on looks alone? Palm Pixi 1, HTC Tattoo 0.
But the Tattoo isn't the only new device that the Pixie might be trying to steal the limelight from today. Seems like there were some announcements coming out of Cupertino, as well. Methinks that the Pixi might steal a little bit of thunder; after all, they're only announcing some new iPods. Right? <a

As a finale to the series, I thought we would take a look at Yelp, the location based search tool. But don’t worry, this will not be the end of our look at apps for the Palm Pre. There are plenty of new apps showing up every day, both in the official App catalog and in the unofficial homebrew app lists. And we will work our way through many of the apps in both locations. For now, though, let’s take a look at Yelp.<p
