After a few weeks off as the holidays more or less killed releases, we are starting to see a few new games.
The three big games this week are Jagged Alliance - Back in Action and ... oh yeah, that Playstation Vita thing. This week brings the special early adopters bundle, and a bunch of games are hitting stores as well. Early looks are no surprise - great hardware, extremely locked down transfer options, and pretty crappy PSP game compatibility. Jagged Alliance is one of the great franchises, and although it is also getting a re-make as a shooter, strategy fans are more excited for this great looking strategy game reboot. We might not be getting a true turn-based game - this is the classic 'Real-Time with Pause', but it is still a fun addition to the franchise and much better than many feared.
There are a few others worth checking this week - read on to find out! <a

Nowadays? Now, PC are powerful enough that you can render complicated underwater scenes . . . in games. You young whippersnappers don't know how good you have it! <a

One of the most highly anticipated games of 2012 for RPG fans is the indie game Driftmoon, and today they have released a demo for the game. <a

Things seem to be cranking up again on the deals, headlined by the awesome 75% off sale on the Jedi Knight collection at Steam. Take my advice, skip Jar Jar in 3D and spend the weekend with Kyle Katarn and Mara Jade!
As a reminder, I have refocused on only those sites I feel bring great deals AND great customer experience to the table, including Amazon, Beamdog, Desura, DotEmu, GamersGate, Mac App Store and Steam. I have two 'featured' games from Get Games because they activate on Steam, so you avoid their silly install limits. Also, I am more tightly focusing on deals of 75% off or more, with occasional 50% sales, but in addition will also be trimming back to fewer than 25 deals per site to keep the list under control.
I am continuing my 'top weekend deals' section where I grab my favorite 5 or so deals of the week and provide direct links! For these games I select based on how good the game is as well as how sweet the deal - but each week there are great games at fantastic discounts! And as always thanks to the crew at Deals4Downloads for their help finding everything. This week I am also going to start properly alphabetizing my list by store! <a

After a few weeks off as the holidays more or less killed releases, we are starting to see a few new games.
The three big games this week are The Darkness II , Jagged Alliance - Back in Action and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning . The original Darkness game was a bit of a sleeper, getting solid reviews but not immediately gaining the commercial success it deserved. Since then it has become a definite fave for many gamers, making the arrival of the sequel even more exciting.
Jagged Alliance is one of the great franchises, and although it is also getting a re-make as a shooter, strategy fans are more excited for this great looking strategy game reboot. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is the highly anticipated first title from 38 Studios, headed by former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling. The demo met with decidedly mixed reviews, with fairly negative feedback particularly from PC gamers. Schilling has been on the forums touting the changes and advances from the demo to the release (and spouting off on just about everything, apparently), so hopefully the troubles with the demo will be rectified.

After a few weeks off as the holidays more or less killed releases, we are starting to see a few new games.
The two big games this week are Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning . The original Final Fantasy XIII was initially met with high review scores, but there was plenty of criticism from a mediocre story to extreme linearity to too many protracted cutscenes and more. Overall it is thought of as one of the weaker franchise games. The sequel is getting early looks that say it definitely addresses the criticism.

Indie Royale just launched the 'Serious Sam Bundle' in what they are calling a 'Lightning Round' - 100 hours only to grab the deal!
Here is what they say on their Facebook page:
The Indie Royale game bundle website is launching a new series of 'lightning packs' - more focused, 'niche' collections of PC games with a shorter time-limit to buy.
The first surprise pack, the Serious Sam Lightning Pack, is available to buy immediately, with a starting price of $2.99 and a total of six Serious Sam-themed games, including
<a

After a few weeks off as the holidays more or less killed releases, we are starting to see a few new games.
The only big game this week is King Arthur II: The Role-playing Wargame. The original game had loads of content and did a great job combining role-playing and strategy, and the expansions added even more great stuff, making this game highly anticipated by RPG and strategy fans alike!
There are a few others worth checking this week - read on to find out! <a

I had it pre-ordered on Steam, loaded it up when it was released and went to play it that night and ... nothing. It simply didn't work ... well, that isn't completely true. It would seem to want to start, but fail miserably, in spite of rebooting, checking drivers, and so on.
A quick check on the Steam forums - and gaming forums in general - revealed that I wasn't alone.
How long have PC gamers had to deal with messy releases? Well, 2011 marked the start of my fourth decade dealing <a

Once again, if you haven't been checking out Steam and Good Old Games and GamersGate on a daily basis ... DO IT!
As we go into the New Year I am completely refocusing this list. First off, I am focusing on just a few sites - Amazon, Beamdog, Desura, DotEmu, GamersGate, Mac App Store and Steam. I will explain that in detail in a separate article in the next week, but basically I won't recommend a site I won't use, and sites other than those have all moved into that territory. Of course, sometimes other sites will offer a great deal on a Steamworks game - one that activates on Steam and is therefore free of the sites rules - and I will cover that separately (like the $11.99 deal on Serious Sam 3:BFE from Get Games).
As part of trimming back, I will more tightly focus on deals of 75% off or more, with occasional 50% sales (like Good Old Games), but in addition will also be trimming back to fewer than 25 deals per site to keep the list under control. Having a list of 475 games from GamersGate alone at better than 50% savings is really not helpful!
I am continuing my 'top 5 weekend deals' section where I grab my favorite 5 deals of the week and provide direct links! For these games I select based on how good the game is as well as how sweet the deal - but each week there are great games at fantastic discounts! And as always thanks to the crew at <a

As I said last week, the well has pretty much run dry on pre-Christmas releases, but that doesn't mean nothing is arriving! There are actually two games of interest, and one big multi-platform release.
The big release is Mario Kart 7 for the Nintendo 3DS. I don't care how many versions you have (I have GBA, DS, GameCube and Wii), there is just something about Mario Kart that is awesome fun - and I really hope Nintendo nailed it for this one! The platform is gaining more interest, and a success could go a long way for them. This week also brings the movie tie-in The Adventures of Tintin: The Game, which is based on the upcoming Steven Speilberg movie that is getting some good early looks. The early looks at the game, however are nowhere near as positive.
But for me the biggest release is the PSN port of the classic Final Fantasy VI, which I'll be playing on my PSP Go later in the week. For me this game is the pinnacle of the franchise - more fully formed and modern than earlier games (though I love Final Fantasy IV as well), and less emo, angsty and cutscene-ridden than later games.
There are a few other console and PC games, such as (this time for sure!) JAWS: Ultimate Predator for the Wii, and Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand DLC for PS3 (X360 and PC get it a bit later), as well as some others. There are a few others worth checking this week - read on to find out! <a

Along with the Wizardry and Might & Magic games, the Ultima franchise remains at the pinnacle of the role playing genre and possesses two of the greatest accomplishments in gaming: Ultima IV, which brought morality and true choice to gaming, and Ultima VII, with a vast branching story. The original Ultima VII: The Black Gatewas joined by three massive expansions and features loads of gaming - and Good Old Games has collected them all into "Ultima 7 The Complete Edition" and are selling it all for $5.99!

The well has pretty much run dry on pre-Christmas releases. Or ... perhaps not! As a sign of just how much gaming has shifted towards handhelds, this week the big game is the <a

There are a few other console and PC games, such as JAWS: Ultimate Predator for the Wii, and Defender's Quest for Mac and PC, as well as some others. There are a few others worth checking this week - read on to find out! <a

The contrast between the hundred plus releases last week and the couple of dozen this week shows that we are now in the slide into the holidays and the big releases are done. Well, almost - we have The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Wii this week, which had been listed for last week on some sites. Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Assassin's Creed Revelations, Saint's Row: The Third, and Need for Speed: The Run! And those are just the 'blockbusters'!
There are a few other big games, such as Serious Sam 3: BFE, which is a prequel to the classic pure-fun shooter series. I loved the first two, but felt they stumbled with Serious Sam 2 by trying to be ...well, too serious.
There are other interesting releases like The King of Fighters XIII, as well as WWE '12, as well as some others. Every platform has something worth checking this week - read on to find out! <a

I am sure I'm getting jaded - it seems with each week I am unimpressed by the list of hundreds of games at 50% off or more and have a hard time grabbing five favorites ... but when I dig in I still realize how awesome the deals are! I am focusing my lists more on the deals of 75% off or more to keep things manageable ... but still have some that are >50% off - but that is my lower limit!
I am continuing my 'top 5 weekend deals' section where I grab my favorite 5 deals of the week and provide direct links! For these games I select based on how good the game is as well as how sweet the deal - but each week there are great games at fantastic discounts! And as always thanks to the crew at <a

One that stands alongside those but has never gotten the same attention is Lands of Lore.
The Lands of Lore games are epic role-playing adventures from nearly twenty years ago, yet with full voice acting from people like Patrick Stewart! The stories are well done and provides loads of twists and turns and opportunities for role playing.
