I'm due for an upgrade, and I've been chomping at the bit to try a Windows phone, as evidenced by <a

If a person treats them poorly without reason they are, quite simply, a lousy person. And you can only expect to receive the same down the line. On the other hand, if they treat you AND others well, you have a partner you can count on.
I can hear you saying 'what is it NOW, Anderson? What are you griping about this time?' Well, I'm talking about Sony. Anyone who has a PSP Go remembers how, right up until the release of the Go, Sony was teasing the possibility of some form of 'UMD transfer program' that would allow users to get some value out of existing UMD games by trading them in or somehow 'swapping' them for a digital version. And, in fact, EU and Japanese gamers who had existing PSN accounts with registered PSPs got a set of three digital games. US gamers got ... nuthin'. <a

The DRM is this: you need to go through all of the normal serial number and online activation hoops, but beyond that you also need to have a constant internet connection to Ubisoft’s servers. If that connection drops – ON EITHER END – you are booted out of your game. Originally the boot-out would lose all progress from the prior checkpoint, but an update made it so the game state was saved at the moment of connection loss…which was at least a step in the right direction.
It was reported that the new DRM system was cracked on the day of release for both Assassin’s Creed II and this game, which was made worse the following week when Ubisoft’s servers experienced issues and many folks were unable to connect and therefore unable to play. I was amongst those who tried to play the game and while my internet connection was fine, I couldn’t even get started.
<a

Amending our criteria will ensure that politics has no place in our grant process," the group said."
My wife did the Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure a few years ago when we lived in the Boston area. Her father had died of cancer, and she used that as her focus as she rallied support and gathered the thousands of dollars in required donations to the fund. When the news broke this week about the Komen foundation pulling breast cancer screening, she was dismayed and upset to find that one of the key areas that Komen fought for - grant funding to support breast pre-screening for women without insurance support - was being eliminated through Planned Parenthood. <a

Apple, the company that was one of the very last consumer electronics companies making stuff in the US while taking heat from everyone about how much their stuff cost and how slow they were to move from platform to platform? I'll provide a video at the end for context. The basic theme is that Aperture Science (Google) does what it 'must' (cruel human experimentation in the name of science) because it 'can' (no one can stop them). But also realize that it is presented humorously in-game, and I don't intent it seriously here.
Today we learn that Google is going to be combining all of the login and account data across every service we access with the same credentials.

That is what has happened to Robert Jordan who was trying to become a police officer in New London, CT.
Jordan, a 49-year-old college graduate, took the exam in 1996 and scored 33 points, the equivalent of an IQ of 125. Why am I telling you this? Well, look at the dates for the show above; that's when it was broadcast in the United States. In the U.K., it came out 4 months earlier. And these days, where the world is so much smaller (electronically); where I can get <a

We were told, at the time, that five years is about the lifespan for this type of appliance these days. That's not so surprising considering the fact that the 25-year-old dishwasher at our lake cabin is still going strong. Yes, companies want to keep you coming back as a repeat customer and the lifespan of many things is growing shorter and shorter in order to help ensure it.
It seems Planet Fitness has found a way to keep their customers coming back time and again as well. It's a bit creative and fits with the New Years resolutions that people <a

GameFly is a console game rental subscription service, and had wanted to branch into PC game distribution and potentially rentals and saw Direct2Drive as a possible way to do that.
I had basically forgotten about the deal for a few reasons: first, we haven't heard anything in 7 months; second, because Direct2Drive has been much quieter in general, leaving the big sales for Steam and GamersGate; and finally because of all the angst about GameStop taking over (and ruining) <a

The content was fine, but it was presented in a very unfortunate way. See, any place "you're", "you", or "are" should have been used, she replaced it with "UR", "U", and "R". Unless she's on a special texting plan where she pays by the letter (unlikely), there's no excuse for those abbreviations in a professional setting.
Sadly, this has been a trend I am encountering more and more, even with adults in a corporate setting. Text-speak is bad enough with personal messages, but at least those are informal. When you're trying to present yourself <a

It's a glimpse into what it's like to be both Muslim and American in Dearborn, Michigan. And while admittedly it's slow at times, we've really enjoyed seeing how different people approach their religion, and learning more about the different ways people practice, even within their own families. So we were very surprised when the hardware store Lowe's pulled their ad support after the "Florida Family Association" complained about the show.
What Lowe's didn't realize, but should have, is that controversial decisions in 2011 don't fade quietly away. People were angry that Lowe's pulled the ads. Really angry. Their I noted had just been released for the first time in ebook form a couple of weeks ago. It was far from my first reading, and was actually the fourth time I had bought the book over the last 30 years. Three have been paperbacks - one that simply died with use, a second one that is still in great shape, and a third from when I was traveling, and now the ebook version is on my Kindle Fire.
No spoilers here, but the book is as awesome as ever and highly relevent in current society, though the early chapters were more uneven than I remembered. <a

It is 'Reality TV', which already lands me at 0% interest, then add on my general disinterest in everything they and the show are about, and you have a formula for a show that I actively avoid. I don't share their religious views nor do I have an larger-than-average family, so my daily life is nothing like theirs - yet this week I feel a certain kinship with the Duggars.

Although the message says 'good news', neither DBMurray nor I find the news all that great. Why? Well, as my earlier article indicated, PopCap is a pretty cool company with great games. EA is a terrible company with a tendency to treat customers poorly, lock people out of their games for vague and inconsistent reasons, gobble up properties and kill them, milk franchises for all they <a

This week we got news that put the <a

This is based on numbers from Gartner, which means that they willingly and knowingly count Samsung's % estimates' the same as other people's 'shipments' the same as other people's actual SALES. In other words, their numbers are a crapshoot. But make no mistake - Android is BY FAR the dominant mobile OS.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on the Mac App Store. The deal is still going on, by the way! Anyway, it put me in the mood to replay the game, so I checked Steam to see if they ever opened up Steam Play - they hadn't.
Fortunately I had reviewed the game back in the summer of 2008 for the Mac, with a game gotten through Aspyr's GameAgent. This meant I had a full game at some point. UN-fortunately, the install file was >4GB, and the Iomega 250GB hard drive I used for backing up my Mac had died last year, and my secondary was FAT32 and unable to deal with the file. So I had no backup.
I knew that EA used a similar Digital River download system as GameAgent before they kicked off Origin, and I know I had never had any issues re-downloading stuff I got all the way back to the original Battlefield 2142 in late 2006! So I HOPED that would be the case here.
Sadly I was mistaken - I looked for some sort of 'download manager' or client, but there wasn't one. Then I tried logging in and searching for my order history - and came up empty again! <a
