Supposedly, Amazon has been shopping an "ebook subscription service" around to publishers, in an effort to bundle ebooks with Prime membership. Sort of like Netflix for eooks. The closest analog to this is the old "Book of the Month Club" type deals, but this is definitely a step up. It benefits consumers, but does it actually benefit the business of selling books? Check the blogosphere and you will see a host of posts on dozens of sites announcing that the next generation iPhone will arrive in October. This is in contrast to the dozens of sites that recently reported that the new iPhone would appear in September. That, in turn, was in contrast to some reports a few weeks ago that the next iPhone would arrive in late August.

Good news for Harry Potter fans! There's a rumor that JK Rowling may have finally been persuaded that the vast army of Kindles, NOOKs and iPads should also be sprinkled with some wizarding magic, and the Harry Potter series may actually come to ebook form! According to The Scotsman:

I might be seeing conspiracies where there aren't any, but I think I see a pattern in many business decisions going on in the eBook market lately. We're all sitting on the edge of our seats waiting for the outcome of the in-app purchasing drama, and so far no one's (overtly) talking. Judie and I have been discussing the Verizon iPhone 4 announcement all afternoon.  The pros, cons, new features (there aren't many), etc.  One of the main, if not the only difference, between the Verizon iPhone and the AT&T version is the mobile hot spot feature found on the Verizon version.  The Hot Spot feature allows up to 5 users to connect to the iPhone's internet connection and share it to get online.

After seeing the Verizon iPhone 4 demoed following the announcement we learned that the Hot Spot features appears to be part of iOS and the Verizon phone is running a new version of the iPhone operation

It looks like there are rumors of some new Sony ebook readers coming out this fall! Supposedly they'll be model numbers PRS-350 and PRS-650, effectively updates to the current PRS-300 (Pocket edition) and PRS-600 (Touch edition). In addition, the PRS-650 is rumored to have 3G (and maybe WiFi), so it's almost a mashup of the Touch and Daily Editions Sony currently sells. The only bright spots are that there may be note-taking options on the PRS-350, and both devices are going to have an updated interface. So there has been lots of hoopla around the web concerning 3G, 4G, LTE, Wimax, HSPA+(+). T-Mobile has been behind a lot of the mess and continues to anger other networks with their promising speeds and their comparison to 4G. First to get things straight understand that 4G, HSPA+, and LT are all theoretically different. Most will refer LTE and WiMax as "4G" when in truth the early versions of both simply do not comply with the 4G (IMT-Advanced) standards. 4G refers to all IP Packet Switched networks and is the future of mobile and wireless broadband. So why is T-Mobile getting so much press about it?

For the vast majority of Smartphone users, Android and iPhone have been doing quite nicely with a little RIM and WebOS thrown in for good measure. The Windows Mobile fans have been left with broken hearts -- and dreams of one day seeing a super comeback from Microsoft's mobile platform.  With the announcement of Windows Phone 7 in the past year I think some of that fire has been rekindled, but for most has left a sour taste from the likes of WinMo 6.1, and 6.5. Everyone, including me, was surprised on June 15th when the iPhone 4 became available for pre-ordering, and the absence of the White version of the device.  First announced in two colors (black and white) at WWDC, Apple offered no explanation on the  15th only that the White version wasn't available but the Black was. Sky News is now showing a video showcasing the iPhone 4's launch in London England.  During the video you can clearly make out two lucky souls holding White iPhone 4s. I woke this morning to find an e-mail from Apple letting me know that my iPhone 4 will be delivering on Wednesday 6/23 one day earlier than the scheduled world wide launch.  The e-mail  reads as follows:

I'm not sure I believe that the iPhone 4 will in fact deliver a day early but according to Engadget lots of other people have received similar e-mails.

What's even more curious is that when I received my initial tracking number from the Apple store it too indicated a delivery date

When Apple announced their Magic Mouse I was of two minds. On the one hand I was thrilled to see Apple moving away from the Mighty Mouse's constantly failing trackball and choose, instead, to go with a multitouch option. Remember the iWatch?  The iPhone inspired concept watch that we showed you a few weeks ago started out as only a picture.  Then days later the designer added a video commercial to the mix. Now ADR Studio, the Italian design house responsible for the iWatch concept, has taken it one step further and added retail packaging! Oh if only Apple would jump on this design and bring it to market. Fantasy over.

Remember the iWatch?  The design received a ton of press over the internet when it was shown a few weeks ago.  ADR Studio, an Italian design house, posted a great render of what an Apple iWatch might look like.

Now the designers are back with an official iWatch commercial.

It seems Apple isn't taking any chances when it comes to the availability and lack there of, of the the next iPhone.  It looks like they want to avoid the problems many consumers are currently having trying to get an iPad.  Stores are simply sold out right now due to high demand. Digitimes, who seems to be pretty accurate with Apple speculation and rumor, is reporting that Foxxonn is poised to ship 24 million next generation iPhones starting this coming June. As is true for many Mac users, I remember not-so-fondly back in 2002 when the nifty and free iTools became the very similar but not-even-close-to-free .Mac ... and then later got renamed to Mobile Me. While many users find the tools useful and therefore subscribe, there is nearly constant discussion about the pricing model and comparisons about the services offered compared to free or inexpensive alternatives. Steve Wozniak, who along with Ronald Wayne and Steve Jobs founded Apple in 1976, recently had himself photographed drinking a beer, staring into an iPhone and wearing a T-shirt that reads: "I went drinking with Gray Powell and all I got was a lousy iPhone prototype."

Anyone who's been following the iPhone 4G leak story knows by know that Gray Powell is the infamous Apple Engineer who lost his iPhone prototype while drinking in a bar.  It seems Woz. feels for Gray and at the very least empathizes with his plight.

Android is soon to get another upgrade in the form of yet another delicious treat codename "Froyo". Froyo will be Android OS version 2.2 and is speculated to include some great new features for all phones capable. Although the massive 2.1 rollout has yet to take place on some earlier phones, the newer superphones should have no problems receiving this update with open arms. A key feature of the new OS is putting a stop to OS fragmentation. With so many different handsets running Android, we have some running 1.5, 1.6, 2.0.1, and 2.1. According to iPhone Replacement Parts this might just be the glass assembly for the leaked Apple 4G iPhone.  The company who repairs iPhones reached out to me on Twitter with some interesting pictures of what appears to be a glass assembly that fits with the leaked pictures of the 4G iPhone floating around. Sure enough the glass assembly they have has the cutout for a front facing camera and  a black edge along the sides of the screens.  The camera lens cut out looks to be in the exact place that it appears in the Gizmodo pictures that were released earlier today.

Then Google stepped into Apple's realm by introducing a smartphone operating system that directly competes with Apple's baby. Google's representation on Apple's board came to an end.
