It’s finally here. Today is the day that overpriced Shea Stadium seats ($869 per pair) will be offered to the general public. There were two private sales previously held for season ticket holders. What’s left of these seats can be yours for only $869 (plus applicable NY or FL sales tax). Before you decide that these are too expensive - remember that this includes removal, shipping and the seat arm rests will be stripped and repainted.
S&S Seating will begin removing Shea Stadium seats in the days following the Mets’ final home game. The metal seat frames, which date back to Shea’s opening season in 1964, will be stripped and repainted in their original color to meet standards for indoor use. The plastic seat and chair-back, which has been in use since 1980, will remain as is. S&S Seating will ship out the pre-sold seat pairs 8-12 weeks after the final game is played at Shea Stadium.Seat pairs are available for purchase exclusively online at mets.com/shea, with general public sales beginning August 25, 2008. Fans and collectors worldwide will be able to purchase orange, blue, green, and red seats for $869 per pair. The limited inventory of seats will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Each seat pair will be authenticated by Major League Baseball’s Authentication Program and affixed with a tamper-proof hologram displaying a unique identification number.
