Order Dominos Pizza via your Tivo!

tivo pizza.jpg

What worries me most about the new ability to order Dominos pizza via your TIVO is not that it’s an odd way to order, but that in 15 years my grandchildren will ask me to tell them about the days people actually left their houses to go shop and have meals.

TiVo subscribers can set-up a user name and password on Dominos.com so that each time they use their TiVo remote to place an order, they can log-in with a simple account number. Alternatively, TiVo subscribers can enter their delivery address, build their pizza order right from the television set by selecting type of crust, toppings, and sauces, and get the pizza delivered by their local Domino’s Pizza.

Gateway FX6800-01e with new Intel Core i7 gets an early look

gateway fx 6800 .jpg

The unreleased Gateway FX 6800-01e gets a thorough looking over at SlashGear. This box is one of the first to use the next generation Intel Core i7 processor (aka Nehalem). This processor is considered to be the most significant architectural change since the Pentium. True to form, it looks like Intel has several (confusing) flavors of Core i7 to introduce including: Extreme Version (3.2 GHZ), Performance Version (2.93 GHZ) and Mainstream Version (2.66 GHZ). Slashgear is mostly impressed and they have a library of photos as well as benchmarks which tell the full story.

New MacBook and MacBook Pro unboxed

YouTube Preview ImageUnless you’re living under a rock, you’ve probably heard that Apple announced several new models and refreshes of their popular line of MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air computers. The MacBook seems the most changed with new aluminum casing and beefier video and storage specifications. Turns out all the hype about “carving a laptop from a brick of aluminum” was interesting speculation. Apple is indeed using the manufacturing process that they used to make the MacBook Air so slim - but there doesn’t seem to be any magic aluminum carving potion beyond sharing the same manufacturing process. So far as I’ve seen, these laptops are not Apple’s much ballyhooed margin buster as evidenced by the chorus of complaints about the lack of an expected sub $800 model.

New MacBook’s Announced:
$1299. 13.3″ Glossy Display, 2.0GHz, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, 160GB HD
$1599. 13.3″ Glossy Display, 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, 250GB HD.

New MacBook Pros Announced:
$1999. 15.4″ Glossy Display, 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA 9400M + 9600M, 250GB HD.
$2499. 15.4″ Glossy Display, 2.53GHz, 4GB RAM, NVIDIA 9400M + 9600M, 320GB HD.

Slashgear unboxes and reviews the ASUS Eee PC 901

asus eee pc901.jpg

Slashgear have gotten their hands on an engineering sample of the new ASUS Eee PC 901. This unit sports an 8.9 ” display and an Intel energy saving Atom processor. It is similar to the Eee 900 with the most pronounced improvements to the battery life. Interestingly the ASUS allows for three speed cycles - Super Performance (1.8 MHZ overclocked), High Performance (normal 1.6 MHZ) and Power Saving (underclocked 800 MHZ). While in power saving mode the battery is claimed to last for up to 6 hours. Head over to Slashgear for their full review. Ewdi does a nice unboxing video - pausing to explain the highlights of this device which is especially interesting for anyone looking at the ASUS for the first time. I’m still waiting for the first blogger unboxing video where a finger is severed while the eager reviewer tears into the carton.
