Office Mobile 2010 Beta has appeared in the Microsoft Marketplace. However, it will expire on April 5, 2010. It will uninstall any previous versions of Office Mobile as well, but if your device came pre-installed with Office Mobile, it will not be affected.
It seems that there are a couple of new features, particularly with Outlook. You will now be able to group messages to a contact, which will make your Inbox tidier.

It is available for download on Windows Marketplace for Mobile here.

Welcome back to the Windows Mobile Weekly Roundup series. Last week, Microsoft released an update to their Marketplace for Windows Mobile application, which fixes some security bugs, bringing consumers better experiences with the application. Let’s get started with this week’s roundup, starting with the Featured Software of the Week!
Featured Software of the Week
This week’s featured software would be SPB’s Mobile Shell 3.5. This application has always been one of the best looking Today Screen replacements for Windows Mobile. The combination of a slick interface and some light, handy shortcuts led for a much more pleasing user experience. Each incarnation improved greatly upon the last and this update is no slacker.

Finally, Marketplace application for Windows Mobile 6 and 6.1 has been officially released by Microsoft. Now, Windows Mobile 6 and 6.1 users no longer have to use the unofficial release of Marketplace.
Marketplace for Windows Mobile, if you didn’t already know, is a new feature which will help consumers to easily find, install and experience those applications that fit their needs and make the phone truly personal. Developers, who have already built over 20,000 applications for Windows® phones, will be able to offer applications to customers through the marketplace via a simple security and compatibility check from Microsoft.

Check out this cool demonstration from dynapocket that shows a Windows Mobile device running some lightning fast voice translation software. You speak the phrase, the device translates to both text and spoken word. I’m sure it would be a bear for lengthy conversations but for emergencies like “where is the nearest bathroom” it’s worth the money – whatever the ultimate price.

Still hanging onto your Windows Mobile 6.0/6.1 device? Not sure about this whole 6.5 upgrade? Really jealous that people with 6.5 can use the totally awesome and well stocked Windows Mobile Marketplace? Well, first of all, it’s not well stocked, so you can drop your jealousy a tad. And if you head over to xda-developers, a kind soul has already stripped out the Marketplace cab and made it available to all of us that are still on 6.0/6.1, so you won’t have to shell out for an HTC Pure just to buy apps on your phones.

Google Voice, if you have been missing out, is the Internet based phone forwarding service by Google. It gives you a separate phone number, which you can give out as if it is your regular phone number. You can then change your settings to have calls forwarded to any of your phones. Best of all, it is free except for international calls.
Now, OneTouch Solutions has developed OneDialer, a solution for Windows Mobile users to use this wonderful feature on their phone. It is a fully featured Google Voice dialer, SMS and Visual Voicemail client.

One thing I didn’t realize would happen when I upgraded my Dell Axim x51v to Windows Mobile 6.1 recently, was that I would lose the ability to read my DRM-infested ebooks in Reader format because Microsoft Reader didn’t support the latest version of Windows Mobile. As far as I could tell Microsoft Reader was a dead product. I searched around on forums and blogs, and the only solution I could find was using utilities to transfer my Reader books to a format readable in Mobipocket Reader. I did that for one book I bought a while ago and had wanted to finish on a business trip this past weekend, but in general it wasn’t something I felt good about.
So imagine my surprise this morning when a post at Pocket PC Thoughts alerted me to an upgrade to MS Reader at Microsoft! I describe it as ’stealth’ because if you go to the official MS Reader page the listing is for the previous version, 2.4.1. If you want the new version (2.4.2) you need to head to the Direct Download Page. There are no new features other than WiMo 6.1 compatibility listed, which I can confirm since I’m now once again ‘Activated’ and reading my DRM-filled purchased ebooks!

The new Pantech Matrix Pro is a chunky and solidly built little smartphone, offered exclusively by AT&T. Measuring 4.17″ tall x 2.0″ wide x 0.85″ thick and weighing 5.34 ounces, it might be easy to dismiss this little beast as too thick and too heavy. But just like a story with a surprise twist at the end, there is more to this quad-band Windows Mobile Standard 6.1 device than first assumed.
