Thought of the day: When we load useless iPhone app after useless iPhone app - is it really any wonder why the phone reboots, lags, and requires frequent resets to clear out the memory? Witness “BeerCounter”. An application that does absolutely nothing but take up space in the App Store and create one more opportunity for your iPhone to hog system resources. Want to freak out ? Search the App Store for “Tip” calculating programs.

At last count there are no fewer than 12 tip calculating applications that essentially take one number (a meal bill) and multiply by a percent. In some instances it also does division (number of diners) to come up with as suggested bill breakdown. Are we this clueless that we need to clutter our iPhones with crap like this? Even worse - is there any chance that developers who rush out “met too” applications are taking the time to be sure that their programs are well behaved in their memory and resource usage?
