I doubt that anyone would seriously debate that we have lost significant freedoms in this country over the last decade, though it is generally presented with a caveat that what has changed was needed for enhanced security. Sometimes this is true, other times it is for the appearance of greater security, and other times it is simply an authoritarian power grab. Which is why this story is so awesome! I'm always happy to get a news item about a product with which I'm familiar, like the iFrogz cases, or the Mophie Juice Packs, or ScotteVest gear.  It's so easy to say, "Hey, check this stuff out!" when you're personally familiar with it, you know? When all of Iran seemed to be exploding in the wake of "President" Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's "victory" in the 2009 election, the news was noteworthy not just because a country struggling against authoritarian rule was trying to free itself, but also because of how the news got out:  Twitter.  Before cell phones integrated with digital cameras, smart phones, and Twitter, it's possible that the world at large might have received no notice at all of the massive protests, deaths, vicious governmental crackdowns, and all the other info about Iran's "Green Revolution". It seems Twittering might have put Chicago chef Rick Bayless in trouble with the White House.

Bayless, who is the Chef at Chicago's Frontera Grill and Topolobampo, is in Washington, D.C. to prepare Wednesday night's State Dinner to honor Mexican President Felipe Calderon.  Chef Bayless was so excited about the trip he started tweeting about it Monday.

But the chef's tweets abruptly stopped Tuesday after the White House reportedly put the kibosh on the news blasts, according to the Sun-Times' Lynn Sweet. Sweet has since updated her story to reflect comments made by Bayless, saying he didn't tweet from inside the White House.

But it appears the on-message White House does have a moratorium on tweeting from inside the Pennsylvania Avenue kitchen. Staff

One of the most popular Twitter clients for the iPhone, Tweetie 2, seems to have mysteriously disappeared from the iTunes App Store.  We don't believe for a second that it was pulled for some sort of violation though.

Twitter recently purchased the application and promised they'd be releasing it as "Twitter for iPhone."

Perhaps it's to be bundled with the upcoming iPhone 4.0 OS or is it simply going to re-appear in the iTunes App Store, re-branded, much sooner?

Every job I've had has been sales or customer oriented in some capacity, so I always geek out a bit at innovative ways to improve customer service. Today I came across a company that used Twitter very effectively to reach out and interact with me as a customer, and I wanted to share that story. I found out about Kigo Footwear on the Runner's World forums, and thought their "Kigo Shel" shoes sounded really cool. So I poked around their website, and learned the company is as interesting as their shoes. It's no secret this Twitter thing has done a bit more than just 'caught on'.    If the Libary of Congress is archiving tweets then, yeah, that's kind of a good indication that this is a big deal.  A technological, cultural and communicative big deal.  The kind of thing that has power.  Just look at the way Twitter brought donations to Hiati, or the way it brings breaking news to many people across the globe long before TV news anchors.

With that kind of impact, many developers are certainly planning to include (if they aren't already)

Embedded into the teapot is WiFi hardware that actually connects to the internet and more importantly Twitter, and then sends you a Tweet when it begins to boil.

Instead of watching to see if there is activity in a house, you can locate users in your area who are mindlessly using Foursquare to broadcast their location to everyone on Twitter. Picking a mark is easy! Enter your area and look for someone who is eating a meal, attending a sports event, in the middle of a pub-crawl, or doing any number of other activities which might give you enough time to pull a major heist. Once you've chosen your mark, click on their Twitter profile and get their real name. Look up their real name in the phone book or online, and then head on over to the 'house of easy pickin's'. That's all there is to it! And if you bring along your smartphone, you can even adjust the thoroughness of your burglary as you track their  progressive tweets and Foursquare check-ins. There's a saying in the restaurant business that goes something like, "if you lose one customer you've actually lost ten."  You see, if just one of your guests has a bad experience at your establishment chances are they're going straight home to tell ten of their friends about their experience and the result being the ten friends avoiding your restaurant too. Any chef or restaurateur knows the restaurant business in not a touchy-feely, one.  It's cut-throat, frenetic and often times downright stressful. It seems the power of social media having a greater impact on the restaurant scene in New York City, now more than ever before. It all started last week during the blizzard which pounded the East Coast.  It seems the chef owner of a restaurant in the East Village, Joe Dobias, tweeted that his deliveries from upstate purveyors had arrived, but not fish from a local supplier.  This wasn't Chef Dobia's first use of Twitter either.  He's known for voicing his complaints over the internet. The chef didn’t post the supplier’s name, but the next morning, Robert DeMasco of Pierless Fish — who also delivers to restaurants like Daniel and Esca — called Mr. Dobias to tell him that his business was no longer welcome. It looks like social networks are coming under attack more and more frequently from phishing attacks, as well as other security breach issues.  This time, its Twitter. From the post on CNet:
"As part of Twitter's ongoing security efforts, we reset passwords for a small number of accounts that we believe may have been compromised offsite," the company said in a statement. Some Twitter users apparently "used their Twitter username and password to sign up for an untrusted third-party application which then posted Tweets to their account," a spokeswoman said.

Now you can show the one you love your affection via candy and Twitter.  "Twitter and Sweethearts candy today will unveil plans to stamp Tweet Me on the familiar heart-shaped, fruity candy that has embraced short messages long before Twitter was even a glitter."

Twitter will be announcing it's newest partnership, this time with Sweethearts candy, the makers of those little tasty Valentines Day hearts.

Its time once again for Random social networking news from around the Internet!
