I reviewed the red Phosphor Appear last year, and I had so much fun with it that I bought one in black. Recently Phosphor began combining their popular Appear watches with nylon bracelet wristbands, and the result has been a bit of a transformation. Before, the Appear relied upon a leather wristband that had to be bucked -- in my case on the last hole; now there is a lightweight and fashionable bracelet which can be sized (by removing individual links) to perfectly fit even the smallest wrists.

The GPS watch market has been dominated heavily by Garmin. Ask a runner, "Do you have a Garmin" and they aren't going to wax poetic about their Nuvi...they'll know you mean a Forerunner watch. But Magellan is looking for a piece of that pie, and they'll be debuting two new watches, the "Switch" series, designed to appeal to runners as well as "crossover sports" (triathletes, bikers, and swimmers, presumably). Based on the press release, it sounds like the Switch will have very similar features to the competition, including the ability to race against a specific pace, mark laps and miles, and use a heart rate monitor. Are you someone who is not ready to give up your wristwatch in favor of simply checking the time on your mobile phone? I don't blame you if you aren't; I'm not either. As a result I'm always looking at watches, considering ones I might wear and balancing function and geek factor against the watch's looks. The Mutewatch is a design I recently found that looks cool, is simple enough to operate, and adds the function of timers and alarms. Yet another watch from their concept to reality blog, the Seven joins the limited edition club and launches at the low-cost of only $99 shipped. Today we are presented with yet another Tokyoflash masterpiece pulled directly from their Concept Blog. Tokyoflash changed things up a little bit more this time when they announced the Kisai 3D Unlimited watch. This watch features a six-sided mirror finished watch face that displays the time and date in a 3 dimensional like display. The illusion of 3D is given by the angle and placement of the digits on the face which displays a cube like pattern giving off the effect of 3D time. This looks like it's actually one of the less cryptic displays to read, but is still certainly one of their coolest designs yet. In the past few months we've seen some pretty killer designs and concepts from the Tokyoflash design team and their concept blog. The latest concept watch is designed to let you know when the Sun's UV rays are too much for you to handle. The concept has a built-in sensor that reads the amount of UV light radiating from the sun and gives you a measurement based on the World Health Organisations radiation scale. It seems like every week Tokyoflash puts out a new watch for us to drool over. Once in a while they bring back a classic or a best seller and give it a fancy new upgrade. Tokyoflash has excited the geek nation once again by re-releasing the Kisai RPM design. Back in November the Kisai RPM was outed as the first user submitted watch design (concept-to-reality) to be made by Japanese company. This time around, Tokyoflash went for a material swap and ditched the Stainless Steel body and strap for an all Acetate design. That sounds really fancy and all, but I needed to know what exactly Acetate was in order to get excited about the watch being made from it. So I consulted Merriam Webster and got this out of them:

Last month I reviewed the new Phosphor Appear watch in the women's red with a Swarovski crystal embedded dial, and I thought it was a little bit too blingy for every day. Since I mentioned that I was going to order the men's black with a plain black bezel, I thought I would post a picture so you could see the difference.

It's still a bright and attention-getting watch, but it is not quite as blinding now. I think it is perfect! =)

I have two watches that I wear; my everyday watch is a stainless and gold ladies Rolex Datejust (that I would greatly love to trade in for the midsize version), and the other is a gold David Yurman that I wear on dressier occasions. I've been trying to wrap my head around how a watch that "[miniaturizes] the “flip-dot” technology found in bus signs and train depots" works, because it just seems so fantastically futuristic and yet so retro at the same time. What I do know is that Phosphor, the company behind the intriguing eInk watches we previously reviewed, has just released a big, bold and more than a little bit blingy watch that appeals to me on several levels.
