Jerry Seinfeld laughs all the way to the bank

YouTube Preview ImageDon’t worry - I’m sure there’s going to be more - and hopefully better - videos in the Jerry Seinfeld advertisement campaign. In mid-August Microsoft announced they had hired Jerry Seinfeld for a rumored $10 million fee to star in what will be a $300 million advertising campaign to convince us that Microsoft still has some life in them. Looks like Jerry’s laughing all the way to the bank in this first one. Anyone know what this is supposed to do except raise awareness of, well, Jerry?

best buy iphone.jpg

Starting this Sunday your iPhone 3G purchasing options will expand to Best Buy stores nationwide. The store is slated to begin offering the 3G iPhone at the normal $199/8GB and $299/16GB price. The phone is appearing in this weekend’s sales circular and also is displayed (not sold) on the Best Buy web site (link below). You will be able to purchase it at all 970 Best Buy locations as well as Best Buy Mobile sites. All the normal terms and conditions continue to apply - you need a contract and it must be activated at the store. Here’s hoping that the initial Best Buy rollout goes smoother than both AT&T and Apple’s did.

The delete key that kills flying insects

delete key fly swatter.jpg

Flys and mosquitoes are everywhere in my town. For some reason there has been an epidemic this year (or perhaps I just have to do better with bundling my trash). If you’re similarly plagued by flying pests - take a peek at this fly swatter that is shaped like a computer delete key. Wouldn’t this make an interesting gift item for the computer geek in your life — or make amends with your company IT department by gifting them one. How long before these become cheap enough to be handouts at trade shows?

AT&T Data Outage Widespread - 9/3/08

att logo.jpg

Since about 3:45am EST today (9-3-2008) AT&T data service in my town has been offline. No 3G. No EDGE. Just voice. According for forum participants at Howardforums, the outage is not entirely nationwide but areas such as New York City, Baltimore and Philadelphia are all down. Those who’ve called AT&T have gotten some explanations blaming the recent hurricane. Personally I’m thinking Bigfoot chewed through a cable or two. AT&T say’s we’ll be back to normal soon. UPDATE 1:00 pm - Everything is back to normal here in CT after an approximate 10 hour data outage.

Crime scene scarf - for the CSI fan in your life

crime scene scarf.jpg

I just noticed this online and thought it would make a neat back to school gift for a CSI fan or student in your life. It’s a nearly 5 foot long acrylic knit scarf that comes in its own “roll of tape” case. When unrolled it reads “Crime Scene Do Not Cross” - perfect for keeping warm or draping over sleeping friends for the obligatory goofy Facebook picture.

Crime Scene Scarf - $14.99

USB Fever battery charger 2800mAh.jpg

USB Fever has this iPhone 3G compatible battery pack available for $44. The rated power capacity is 2,400 mAh which is a full 50% larger than competitors such as the Mophie. This slide on battery pack contains a built-in speaker for the phone as well as volume and power buttons. Like the Mophie you cannot synch through the battery pack - you’ll have to remove your iPhone and connect it directly to your computer in order to sync at the end of the day.

Get a grip on your iPhone 3g with a tire tread case from Casemate

vroom for iphone 3g.jpg

I’ve seen some fun iPhone cases in the past year. For example there was the iPhone case disguised as chocolate candy bar. I’m not sure if the candy bar was supposed to be a disguise so your phone wouldn’t be stolen - or if there are people who enjoy speaking into candy. Until now there hasn’t been a case disguised as a car part. Enter the Vroom case for 3G iPhone. This tire tread disguised as an iPhone 3G case is priced right at only $14.99 and guaranteed to (as Clinton so aptly pointed out) leave skid marks on your floor the first time you drop it.
