Everki Titan Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Backpack Review

If you are anything like me, there is plenty of gear that you carry everyday. All of this stuff may not be used daily, but it has to be available since you never know. I am totally guilty of carrying too much stuff with me back and forth from work or on trips. With that said, carrying the gear is an important task. My favorite choice of bags is always a laptop backpack. Maybe it is the fact that I spend the majority of my time at a school so backpacks are everywhere or maybe I just like the way they carry. Regardless, I have used various backpacks for the past few years. One of my go to companies for gear bags is Everki. Click here to check out some of the products we have already reviewed on Gear Diary. My latest backpack is the Titan. This checkpoint friendly laptop backpack is large enough to carry up to an 18.4″ computer. Let’s take a close look.

The Titan is a laptop backpack that will carry virtually any size laptop sold. On top of being huge enough to fit even the largest mobile computer, it is also packed with features that promises to carry any gear you see fit to travel with you. In fact, when I transferred all of my gear to this bag, there was so much room left, I thought I had forgotten to include something. The backpack comes in the black as shown and the outer shell is made from nylon. The inside sports the usual bright orange color with laptop and tablet areas made of anti-shock foam and soft material. The backpack measures in at 14.96″ long, 8.27″ wide and 21.96″ high. While empty, the Titan weighs 4.43 lbs. Yes, this thing is big and yes, there is tons of extra pockets and storage space. Just like other Everki backpacks, the bag opens up flat to allow to be checked at the airport. I would think this bag can be all you need for a quick business trip.

The Titan provides users with three main storage compartments. The rear compartment is reserved to carry the laptop. Place the computer in the padded pouch and secure with the velcro strap. The material is soft and you will have no worries about the safety of the machine once it is secured. Just outside the padded area is plenty of room to carry power supplies. My 13″ MacBook Pro is virtually swallowed by this compartment, but still stays nestled in the bottom of the soft pocket and totally safe. I often use the extra space to carry random items I am bringing home from work.

The middle storage compartment contains a compartment large enough to house an 11″ tablet plus tons of extra gear. I actually carry my iPad encased in the Just Air case along with an Apple bluetooth keyboard to assist in larger work projects. There is also four various sized zipper pockets and several open pockets with plenty of space in the bottom to carry a ton of gear. This is where I store several hard drives, extra cords, some laptop speakers and various other gear. In fact, this compartment would probably be the only storage on many other laptop backpacks.

The front compartment is a bit smaller, but still can hold a ton of gear. A large number of pockets of varying sizes are perfect to carry most odds and ends. Pens and pencils, business cards, all of the smaller office type gear that might find it’s way into a gear bag. I also carry several USB hubs along with cords and a portable router and ethernet connection. You can never be too prepared. To help manage the front and middle compartments, Everki included two straps to secure while traveling or sending through the checkpoint. The straps are secured with buckles that are protected by a small neoprene sleeve to prevent an accidental opening. This is a smart design feature, especially for those who frequent airports.

Several other smaller storage pockets will round out any storage needs. A small zippered pocket a the top is includes a headphone port and plenty of room to store an mp3 player. I use this area to store all of my USB thumb drives and headphones. It is quite handy. Two zippered pouch style pockets are located at the bottom of either side. Carry a water bottle or any other odds and ends that might need to be accessed while in transit. The final storage area is a neoprene pocket in the front of the backpack. The stretchy material will keep small items snug for the trip. This pocket is perfect for a couple of magazines or newspaper that might help pass time on a wait or flight. The designers at Everki have found a way to use all available space in clever ways.

The Everki Titan laptop backpack is a behemoth carrying solution. In fact, I was concerned that the size would be overkill for me, but the comfort and design of the straps make it totally comfortable to carry. To be honest, my gear felt lighter when I first transferred to the new bag despite the larger size and empty weight. All of the zippers, buckles and straps are high quality and I can see this backpack lasting a long time. After carrying this backpack for several weeks, I have become spoiled at the amount of gear I can carry comfortably. The bag literally goes everywhere with me. Yes, I will never carry an 18.4″ laptop, but the added size for other items is great and the design makes it comfortable. Whether you travel by airport often or simply work a block from your home, I can easily recommend the Titan for anyone’s use.
